Should I switch to autoflower or not?

I’ve been growing indoors for 4 years now with reg photoperiod plants with ok results. Average 3 oz per plant in a 4x4 tent. Would switching to autos potentially increase my yield due to quicker turnaround or not? Keeping all other variables the same .

Not likely, photos generally produce more. Autos don’t give you the luxury of getting them perfect before you flip, like photos. If you’re looking to increase yield, improve your technique and watch your numbers carefully. Make sure every aspect of the grow is optimized. That will give you max yields . Autos will produce well if the entire grow goes well, if anything goes wrong, there’s no time to make it up, where you have that with photos.:oncoming_fist::+1:

If you want more production you need to use the 4x4 as the flower tent and feed it with a smaller veg tent that requires less light and less size.
I also have a 4x4 and due to physical limitations I grow smaller photos of target 4 oz.
By eliminating the seedling and veg portion I hope to turn the flower tent every 8-10 weeks.
I have a grow landing right now and some plants 3 weeks from moving into the tent.

I grew back to back autos. You can do 6 autos fine in a 4x4 and have less issues with heat generation due to the 18-6 schedule I ran.
If you do not have the handoff from seed to veg totally figured out autos may not be for you.
Research the strain some can be prone to helmet head with a 20% die ratio.
And you may grow a freak.

Then again if you can dial in your grow, autos can produce a great yield in a short time. Autopot system helps to take away watering errors so you just have to take care of waterin for the first 2-3 weeks.

I did 4 autos in two tray2grows in a 4x4(480w light) and the yield was an average of 160g trimmed nugs per plant.

Strain selection is key.

I am not disagreeing with growing photos to autos as I prefer photos. But my biggest yielding grow was 7 white truffle ILGM autos at over 4 lbs. The first 3 to 4 weeks are critical with autos. You just hope they don’t flower too early. You can also stuff an auto in with your photos if you time it right :+1:. I treat autos like photos as I do transplant them and top them if they are looking good early. Many just do LST to autos to reduce stress.

You have received some good tips and advice. You could always grow one or two autos side by side with one or two photo period plants. You could then decide for yourself which work best for you and your setup.

I run 2 tents, 3x3x6 high and 2x2x6 high, i grow og kush photo in the 4x4 and different auto’s in the 2x2x6. I usually get very close to a pound in the 4x4x6 and about 6-7 ounces in the auto tent. you’ll always get a faster turn around with auto’s but volume will always be down compared to the photo.
