Can anyone offer tips for growing autos?
Sure, if you’re starting out with them:
-Don’t plan to transplant, start in your final container
-Use LST for training, not topping or fimming
-Autos tend to use less nutrients than photos, so stick with lighter feeds
-Forget the breeders estimate on timing. Pay attention to when it starts flower and treat it like any other photo when deciding it’s done - pistils and trichromes
Just to be clear - lots of people can be successful when transplanting or using HST on autos. But to start, I’d avoid that.
Tips as far as ? Thats an open ended question. Tell us how you want to grow and then we can give you tips lol
Completely organic and the bushy the better, lmao
Coast of Maine Stonington Blend. Their dry amendments, how many plants. How big is your space. If you want bushy, grow photos and not autos
I have two autos down, and my space is quite big. It’s an outside grow, i meant a high yield
If you want big yield from autos, go with big pots. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard/read that if an auto’s taproot hits the bottom of its pot, it can trigger the switch to flower even earlier than it’s normal timeline.
Although I think the better way to achieve a high yield is to grow photos.
Autos have a mind of their own… its like playing black jack… you could get a quarter or you could get 8 oz… want big yields go photo.
@Wee711 i agree with @ChittyChittyBangin if your wanting big yields you need to stick with photos. Auto’s are unpredictable you may get big plants or you may not no matter size of pots
Thank you for your advice ![]()
Heres an example for you…
These are all photos i just flipped yesterday. Been vegging about 6 weeks or so, they could triple in size.

Banana Kush Auto and G13 Auto…
I’m currently growing 4 autos in a Dutch bucket system. They are doing remarkably well and transitioning to flower now.

Stick with photos. You’ll be much happier.
Not necessarily true. Autos do have their place. They aren’t for everyone, but they are really good for learning the ropes and building a decent stockpile.
Perhaps, but they are temperamental, have less time to recover from ailments, and are unpredictable. I’ve done alright with them, but I have a lot of experience. I’ve seen a lot of new growers on here struggle with them.
I agree with @Bamarayne auto’s is good way to learn and grow different strain til you find the strain looking for then go to photos for big yields my friend’s happy growing
That is very true. I feel that having those tight regulations on my grow really helps me learn.
Kind of a learn it good and fast or suffer! ![]()

Havent read all responses. All cannabis pretty much needs the same love to grow. Good nutes, good Ph, good light.
Time and lighting seem to be the only difference.
They are 2 different tools in tool box. They are great for the peeps who have short grow outdoor seasons.
People in small spaces who dont have tents like me.
Both requure attention to grow correctly. The funny part is, its made to sound like photos dont have issues ever and autos are problem childs. Lol. Depends on the parents. Imo
New to growing autos also. 1 yr sept 1st. 8 out of 9 seeds harvested, 9 hermied due to Ph issue, as with the 2 others. They got corrected immediately. The Dos-Si-Do and Banana Kush still gave 6 good zips, purple punch was pulled…
