Does anyone have a Cannatrol?

What settings do you run?

I have a couple. I have played around with different cure times and in the end have gone back to the factory defaults. I am open to other settings if someone can tell me what difference it makes in the final product.

Are you unhappy with what you get from the factory pre-sets?

My machines use temp and humidity, Cannatrol pushes dew point. My settings are 68 degrees and 60 percent humidity for drying 4 days, then 60 and 60 for a week to cure, then in jars.

I am not drying right now, but have some in long term cure. Can’t remember what all the dry defaults are but it slopes from a dew point of about 52 to 54…all at 68F. The cure factory setting is 68F and 54 dew point…which is 61% humidity.

Thanks for the tag Brother. @IsItSticky i set it at 68/60 for 5-7 day dry with an additional 5-7 day cure :love_you_gesture:

I’ve never strayed from factory settings, mines been running 2 days now, shows 67.7 degrees, 58.3 dew point, 71% humidity.

Since I just now really paid attention to the display, I’m wondering if I need to adjust it.

It runs 4 days dry, 4 days cure

Those are similar numbers to what I get. I learned to pay attention, earlier this year one of the internal fans quit and I was not paying attention. The plants stayed at 90% humidity for a couple days until I noticed. (realized I was not emptying the water tray much) Luckily I had the other unit to move them to and no mold. Cannatrol sent me a replacement fan free even though the warranty was out.

I took the water tray off, bought the right size tubing and ran it down straight into a 5 gallon bucket, having to dump that small tray twice a day was a pain

morning @IsItSticky I run the factory settings…something I have learned from use and Danny at Cannatrol is that once it reaches equilibrium for dry or cure it automatically goes to the next stage settings no matter how much time was programmed… so during the 4 day dry phase if it reaches its set point for some time it will move on to the cure phase settings but still display dry phase and same for the cure phase it will display cure phase but the numbers will be at the hold phase settings… it is a smart device and well worth it to me in my grow setup… :cowboy_hat_face:

and IMHO it really is just a drying device…you still need a good 30 days for curing in it…

Great idea…I will have to do that. The new models have a different system…I think it holds 2 liters.

Agreed…they are using the definition of cure as being ā€œshelf stableā€. Once the factory cycles are done I put the bud in paper lunch bags and keep on the cure settings until I smoke it. I use Grove bags as temporary storage when I need the units to dry another batch.

I did the exact same, with a Y connector, both units drain in same bucket, I was emptying the cups every day and they would be full and backed up if I didn’t do it twice a day. Much easier now.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

What determines if you go 5 or 7? Are you watching for the dew point to stabilize or do you go off feel?

Why paper bags instead of jars? Will it actually cure out in paper?

What if the 4 day dry isn’t long enough? Will it stay in dry until dew point stabilizes?

Do you cure In jars or bags?

The whole unit is kept at the right cure parameters…68F, 61% rh so the whole environment is good for curing. The units can hold more if you put them in something and the bags are breathable so they are the same environment as the whole unit.

They can only dry 2.2 pounds of wet buds…but once dry they hold 4.4 lbs of dry buds for cure. They only way to fit that much is to put them the bags. I cured in Grove bags for a couple years and they work great too.

The 4 days will be enough as long as you put less than 2.2 lbs of wet material in them. the whole cycle is 4 days dry and 4 days cure…but is is all really just drying.

Generally the amount of buds in the trays. I’ve tried 3-5 days but the stem moisture was still too high. Ideally I look for 11-13% before the cure cycle. I’m also still a fan of hanging a whole plant to slow dry if I can keep the environmental conditions on point for the dry cycle :love_you_gesture:

I think the unit will force things to happen within the selected time periods unless you have more ā€˜wet’ in the unit than what it is designed for… like if you put all untrimmed branches in it I could see it not working correctly if the branches were heavy with full leaves… but I am just talking out loud on this no real knowledge… I trim my buds down to no leaves on them and then put them in… I see some growers leave leaf material and large stems on theirs and trim down after the unit finishes the cure cycle… those growers seem to have to empty the water tray more often than me and I am sure it is due to the extra plant material that I trim off… I typically only have to empty the tray a couple times during the first 48 hours… the paper bags allow the buds to breathe and let the unit maintain the correct vapor level in them…I leave my buds in the unit for the cure and long term…no need to take out and put into jars unless I need to use the unit for the next harvest…
