1st Coco Coir Auto Grow Advice

Good morning, I am attempting my first coco grow in Canna Pro and perlite. As usual, a lot of division on how to grow this. You guys have never steered me wrong so here goes.

Should I plant the seeds directly in the 3 gallon forever pot or transplant later? I always plant directly in soil but with coco I’m not sure?

How much moisture does the coco need upon planting the seed? Usual water and wait 24 hours? Any other advice is also appreciated.

Like any media, I always start in water soak, paper towel, then solo cup, then one gallon, then 5. You can go straight from solo to final pot, just be careful with overwatering. Media in cups should just be moist, never wet, and cover seedlings with a moisture dome until leaves touch the sides of done, then remove. Keep humidity around 70% on young plants, 75-82 degrees and you should be golden.

Yes Sir, I have always done the soak and paper towel method. I will take that advice and go with the solo cup to final 3 gallon, what you’re saying makes sense to me.

I guess you are saying the initial water to drop the seed should be moist with no runoff?

I wet my solo cups about 4 days before I drop seeds, it works for me. You can spread media out and simply spray with a spray bottle of ph’d water, only needs to be damp, not wet.

I have done a few runs in coco and like it. I start in a plug then solo then 3 or 5 gal auto pot.
Have you selected a nutrient line yet? Once first true leaves show up in coco they need to be fed. I use MegaCrop and many use Jacks. Both do well in coco.
Coco will need to be water/ fed (fertigated) every day. In flower you may be watering a few times a day. For this reason many coco growers use some type of automated system like auto pots.

Before I started in coco I did some reading, it is much different than soil. Here is a good read. Good luck. Table of Contents - Articles, Tutorials & DIY Projects - Coco For Cannabis

It seems like people have generally better success with solo cups. People often struggle to figure out watering seedlings in larger pots, not always. Many do it, but I think the solo cups ends up easier.

I have used Advanced Nutrients, Sensi Bloom for a long time, I like the PH perfect and I don’t need to use the other part because it has all I need for soil grows. It looks like I will need extra Cal mag with Coco but I have a gallon so I think I’m ok here. They have a line specific for coco but I think I’m ok with what I have.

I was able to find lots of info on feeding both in veg and bloom, but the seedling stage is kind of lacking and then of course the disagreements on transplanting and such. Thank you, this helps a lot.

I think that makes total sense, much easier to water a solo cup than a 5 gallon pot with a small seedling. Are you transplanting in about 2 weeks?

Why 4 days? are you using tap water?

I have good well water, but the 4 days is so it completely drains and is just damp, no other reason. If I’m in a hurry, I spread the Promix out and mist with a sprayer until damp, then cram in solos and plant.

Gotcha, yeah I’m in a hurry lol. I sprouted these and I must plant. I will PH some distilled and spray lightly. Thank you

You don’t have to ph distilled water, it will simply take on the PH of your media.

Good to know as I am buying a distilling appliance, makes things much easier.

I’m generally kinda lazy about all of it. Sometimes I’ll leave them in solo cups way long, whenever they tell me to move them
