Hi. First time grower here. I’ve learned a lot on the forums, but have a question. I have started 2 seeds in solo cups (good drainage holes) with a 75% coco 25% perlite mix. I’ve seen “grow pot cheaply” on YouTube water once a day on his seedlings to runoff. I’m wondering if that’s ok since I didn’t use Rockwool? I’m currently using 1ml cal mag and .25ml of rapidstart per gal. They were planted 2 days ago (germed in paper towels) and just broke ground. He also uses nutrients from day one but I thought I’d hold off till day 3 with a very light amount like him. I guess I just don’t want to over water, but what he says about replacing the water everyday for new oxygen is good in coco makes sense . It doesn’t seem to be possible to overwater in this mixture either. As soon as I pour a little water in, it starts to drain. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. They seem to be doing good so far with 3 waterings.
They are to small to water right now they have no roots yet. I recommend you getting a spray bottle and miSt them 3X a day
@Fuji welcome to the forum. Tons of great knowledge here so if you need to ask a question you can put @ in front of their screen name and they wI’ll be notified. I too grow in coco vermiculite mix and use ph perfect nutrients
@sirsmokes Thanks, they have both opened up and showing their first set of serrated leaves. There is a lot of conflicting info on the internet. Also figured since they were in solo cups it’d be ok just a little bit once a day.
Yes I have started quite a few plants and that’s the method I prefer and then I don’t water to runoff until they are a eek and a half to 2 weeks. As soon as I pull the humidity domes off they start getting water (you have to keep the surface of the coco being moist). I’m in no way saying the method you are using is wrong. If it works for you then kudos. You will find what ways work better for you.
Thanks again. Here’s hoping I don’t drowned them. Lol
I will tag you over to my journal if you have any questions tag me anytime
What strain is it? Do you have a dome to keep humidity in?
Pineapple Express. No I don’t. I have a humidifier right next to them. I had a clear cup over them till they popped up. Didn’t think I’d have to leave them on after they popped.
They need humidity to be around 80% I keep mine domed 1.5-2 weeks then after another week or so I get pretty aggressive with nutrients
@Fuji, I use a plastic pipette to water for the first 2 weeks. I prefer to start in coco and no nutrients are needed or used by the seedling. It has everything on board as it were. You will only stunt their growth otherwise.
That’s 2 weeks plus 2 days since seeds went into coco. (In FFHF now.
How about fans. When do you usually start a breeze on them? I have a fan blowing but it’s not hitting them directly yet.
Looking good. This is how I do mine.
Soak in water for 24 hours.
If have not cracked I put in damp paper towel in a plastic bag until they crack.
Then put in rapid router on top of coco in a cup.
I water the rapid router and coco to runoff.
When rapid router shows signs of drying I put a little water on rapid router and water the coco around the rr to runoff. See first photo. Ounce roots start showing out the sides of rapid router I fill the cup to top with coco and water to runoff. Water every other day. See second photo.
I use cal magic until first true leaves show. Then use very light nutrient for 1st week and increase a little every week until transplant.
Plant in bottom photo is 4 days old.
I always have fans blowing in my box and once the domes come off they all get a breeze I like to see the stem dance a little in the breeze it really strengthens them to hold up them buds
Once they have leaves with serrated edges, they have roots. I use rapid rooter cubes with half strength DynaGrow. You can pop the cubes up out of the tray to check for roots without hurting them. Once they have roots, I put the whole rapid rooter cube in a solo cup of pure coco. I use a transparent cup inside a red cup, so I can check for roots easily without light burning them. (Both cups need holes that line up, or course.) I water them to waste every day with 1/2 strength DynaGrow.
When I can see a lot of roots, they go in big cloth pots with pure coco. They get 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon per day of full strength DynaGrow, for 3 gallon or 5 gallon cloth pots.
You can check out my Blue Dream Grow Journal to see how well they are doing.
Day 7 from seed. How do y’all think they’re looking? Seem to be turning a light green. Not sure if I should worry.
@Sirsmokes @1BigFella @HippieheartLime green is fine. They get darker when the get bigger. My new growth is all lime green and the big fans are dark green.
