This is my first run with Coco and hoping to get a little advice regarding the feeding schedule and nutrient amounts for my girls that are at 16 days from sprout.
I’m a little concerned with the color of the plants, they seem a little light so my thoughts are I may be feeding slightly too conservative.
I’m currently using water/feedings every other day at about 30% concentration of Jacks, with silica and fish shit. 4 of the plants are photo period, and the other 4 are Autos. All Indica genetics.
Since I previous was a soil grower, I wasn’t feeding often and thus am a little concerned giving them too many nutes which may cause nutrient burn.
Lighter green is normal in young fast growing plants.
Coco requires daily watering/feeding. Using a TDS and PH meter to monitor the runoff is a good idea: if runoff drops below, say, 1,200 ppm then feed. If it’s over, say, 1,800 ppm then water only until it hits your target value.
I use Jack’s in Autopots. You can run Jack’s full strength from seedling with no issues. I don’t use Fish $hit and it’s not necessary as Jack’s has it all. Silica is the only addition to my feed schedule.
I appreciate the info. When checking the runoff I’ve been reading between 900ppms and 1100 ppms. In regards to watering/feeding, I haven’t been watering daily because the pot is still quite heavy the day after watering so I have been holding off, and I am not seeing any drooping of the plants. Do you suggest I still water? Perhaps it’s not evaporating much as I have been keeping the humidity between 65% - 75%, Look forward to any further comments.
Thats pretty decent. You could try increasing runoff a bit if your trying to get it lower. I don’t have anything more to add than what Myfriendis410 already said.
Based on the info provided, it seems that I do not need to be so conservative on the Jacks strength since my PPms are below the 1200 after watering/feeding. Perhaps I will raise the strength to about 50-75% and monitor runoff.
Regarding watering, do you suggest I water daily vs every other day even thought the fabric pot is still quite heavy and plants show no signs of water need?
If coco dries out it becomes hydrophobic. Once it does, when watering next it will run through the medium and out the bottom. So, yes: water daily and like I stated above, feed until TDS reaches high target then water only until it hits low target. Then resume feeding.
Hey, like others that do coco grow have said, you need to water daily until runoff. Young plants like yours you might get runoff with a cup or so once a day. But when they get big you’ll need to water/ fertilize 2-4 times a day depending on pot size. Automatic watering system helps a lot. Pic a fertilizer plan for hydroponics, i use general hydroponics plus calmag plus silica. Watch your ph in and your ec out. Dont fret about runoff ph in coco. Great source is cocoforcannabis.com, i follow his patreon. Coco works amazing but there are a few things you need to keep on top of. Plants are looking good so far, keep it up!
I have 4 self watering pots that I haven’t started using yet as I was waiting for the plants to get larger with more roots before starting. I was thinking of holding off until I re-pot in 5 gal fabric pots.
Is it ok to start using them with the plants at the current size (2 gallon pot size) or wait till I upsize to the 5 gal pots?
I was going to try 4 before I bought the other 4 to cover all the plants
A question I was hoping you can help me with, I have one auto flower in my grow Apple Fritter, that appears to be having a magnesium or nutrient uptake issue. The plant is in a 3 gallon pot of Mother Earth Coco /Perlite, and feed Jacks currently at 3/4 strength with silica. The bottom leaves are starting to yellow with green veins, but other than that the plants been growing vg at about 3.5 weeks.
Ph in 5.75, ph runoff 6.3
PPMs in 850, PPMs out 900
I foilier sprayed last night with some Epsom salt and phd water.
