The fox bit me. Next steps for harvest?

Thanks for all the comments on other 2 posts on this grow.

While waiting for the girls to finish, noticed what looked like new calyx and pistils. Was doing research and looks like fox tailing. Pics of this is below. Below the pics are my grow conditions in case anyone wants to chime on possible causes.

Harvesting:
Looking at the foxtails, trichome are mostly clear.
Looking at the older bud structure, most are milky and some amber. This is kinda how I want things… Pics of this are below.

So, as I see it I can…

  • Wait for the new pistols to turn and trichome are milky/amber.
  • As the rest of the bud is ready, cut them now. If I do this i’d likely trim the unripe ends of the foxtails and freeze them for when I do an extract.

I really am after quality, not quantity. Not to concern if the grow comes in at 20%THC ISO 25% THC. Just want a good flavor and an uplifting high.

Trichome on the core bud, getting nice and purple.

What might have caused?

About 2 weeks ago I had to put a dehumidifier in the tent as rain had made basement very humid, about 65% RH at night. This raised my temperature by about 3 degrees F in the tent.

Diet: General Hydroponics late bloom schedule, about 1200EC.
Light: PPFD ~900, DLI ~ 25 – 12/12 about 18" off canopy.
Lights on - 78-79F, 40 RH, 2.0 VPD
Lights off - 75F, 44RH, 1.5 VPD

I know it could be genetics but any ideas for next grow appreciated.

Foxtailing is usually from too intense of light, during the end of flower i usually back my lighting off a bit to try to avoid this. Ive grown plants in the same enviroment and had one enever foxtail and another foxtail straight away. When you see it happening raise your lights or lower your intensity. But i dont really mind a bit of foxtailing.

I agree with @NorseRow on the lighting however, I think a lot of it is genetics as well. I think the purple in your case is genetics. I’ve had some instances where my green plant turns totally purple on an extreme dip in temperature hits the tent.

I hit my extension cord and knocked out my heat one day for two full days and I didn’t know the temperatures were getting down into the 50s and the tent at night and my entire plant turn purple (buds).

The purple didn’t hurt anything when harvested the weed was fire :fire:

As far as trichomes go I would definitely never measure the trichome performance on the foxtails. Stick to the trichome production on the original button structure and you’ll be justified in your decision to chop. Good luck to you

I would harvest from the trichones on the older buds, the Foxtails will never turn the desired color and the THC will degrade greatly waiting for the foxtails to turn :love_you_gesture:

Thanks everyone. I’ll just harvest based on the main buds as per suggestions.
