Don't know what exactly foxtails are, but could someone take a look please

I heard the term foxtail thrown around in these forums, I asked once what they were and from the discription I was given, I’m starting to worry guys, here’s what I see

Foxtailing is the late development of new calyxes and is generally nothing to worry about. I just cut them off when I harvest.

cut them off?! Why not leave on and cure and smoke??

Trichs on foxtails mature later than the rest of flower since it is new growth.

Can you find any pics to look at?

I have plants. 1 in particular is a purple strain and its about a month away from harvest and the buds are almost stacking.

Growing upward. But this is what im use to. Is this an undisired thing?

How should the bud develop?

How do i know if this is a foxtail? Is that a good or baf thing?

Foxtails are neither good nor bad. I find it happens when there is abundant light, which is a good thing. Foxtails are essentially new calyx growth on established flower.

Here’s what your trichs (under magnification) might look like for your harvest. Choose cloudy or amber, based on your tastes in smoke. Be sure to evaluate your trichs only on flower, as trichs on leaves will mature much faster.

I pour a lot of light on my girls and I usually get foxtailing because of it. I cut them off when I harvest since trichome maturity on foxtails will lag that on your main flower by quite a bit.

It stacks on the buds - in my book it’s all good I roll with it, if it happens.:v:

It does add more to the bud with foxtails but it will alter the taste of the bud having new foxtails on the bud. It will have a fresh green taste to the newer foxtail spots which will alter the taste and snells of the buds that are done. Yes in some case it might not mess with taste or smell but from experience of foxtails in my spare bath. If they r cut off at harvest makes for a better tasting product.

So should i dial down from 800W to 600W if i suspect “Foxtailling”?

I would give as much light as you can. Foxtailing isn’t really a big issue.

Unless you plan to put your bud in a contest or under reviewing glass… what are you worrying about? Just grow the bud, harvest when the bulk of it is ripe, dry it, cure it, and smoke it! Aint winning magazine contests here, just growin some dope!
