Question about pistils?

Hello everyone, I have 2 plants that are just now popping their little pre-flowers. I usually notice 2 pistils out of each calyx, some of them only have a single pistil. If I am not mistaken, a pistil is essentially the plants “ovary”…(correct me if I’m wrong please)

Question is - are the plants female if they show pistils in pre-flower?

If yes, why do they only have a single pistil in some cases?

If no, why would it have a female reproductive part?

I somewhat understand the hermie nature of some strains and that’s it’s possible to stress a plant out enough it’ll try to reproduce by itself before death.

Thanks in advance.

She’s showing you that’s she’s sexual mature and will start preflower/flowering a week or so after the light flip to 12/12 :love_you_gesture:

Good sign seeing any pistils correct?

A very good sign that it’s female. What’s your light schedule? Here a little visual aid

Right now they each have their own 100w led vander life full spectrum w uv lights, they get 18/6 on a good timer. Day temp 75f 40% hum. Night time 68f 35-40% hum. They are going into flower later today, I’m planning g a 24h blackout then 12/12. Growing in fox farm ocean forest and using flora nova nute kit.

Very interesting. It is certainly female, but the single pistil calyxes would concern me as well. I would keep a close eye on it to see if a second emerges. If not, she may be carrying the hermie trait. But the only way to know for sure would be to flower her out.

Good eye :love_you_gesture:

I just noticed the first pistils yesterday, they’re not at every node yet but both plants have them.

They may yet emerge.

Into flower they go. They’re at my prestretch height, they’re about 12 weeks old. Thanks again for the responses, I wanted another opinion before I moved the little bushes.

Those are looking good. Nice pretty plants.
Do you know what they are?

Good luck with them. They look very healthy and happy!

They’re blue sunset sherbet or Oreoz, the seeds got mixed accidentally. They look like the sunset we did a year ago but I can’t say for sure.

Ha, a sherbet Oreo mix sounds like a bad milkshake. But those are some pretty girls. Happy growing.

As they go into flowering you may be able to smell the difference between the two, from the terpene profile. Not 100% accurate, but if you’ve grown that strain before, most are alike enough in terpene profile you might be able to tell them apart.
Great looking plants!
Welcome to the community!

Just my opinion, but you don’t really need a blackout period.

Those are sex pistols. She’s just showing you her sex and sexual maturity

Yes, you know its female now
