Question about pistils?

Hello everyone, I have 2 plants that are just now popping their little pre-flowers. I usually notice 2 pistils out of each calyx, some of them only have a single pistil. If I am not mistaken, a pistil is essentially the plants “ovary”…(correct me if I’m wrong please) Question is - are the plants female if they show pistils in pre-flower? If yes, why do they only have a single pistil in some cases? If no, why would it have a female reproductive part? I somewhat understand the hermie nature of…
