I’ve been looking to upgrade to a 4x4 tent and a new light and was hoping to get some advice first before I go ahead with it.
I want to setup for a perpetual auto grow with 6 plants in a 4x4, is it possible to keep all the plants happy in the same 4x4 and have them thrive?
Looking at an AC infinity tent and light for the record, just unsure about lighting and the young plants and what not.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Have you ever given thought to growing photoperiod? If I had that amount of space I’d grow two plants and expect 1 1/2 pounds of dried flower per grow. It’s possible you might not need to run a perpetual grow if that satisfies your demands.
I grow in a 4 X 8 space with 4 plants and pull 3 pounds out of one grow. That’s enough for me to give away a bunch and keep me in smoke until the next year. One grow a year.
AC infinity is a good choice for a up and coming star in the grow world they have some good reliable equipment. I have their 8” in-line fan and carbon filter and a humidifier. Don’t know anything about the lights which is one of the most important items in your decisions you will be making. Have you already purchased your seeds? I grow autos and get about 2 lbs from 4 plants, but I grow in hydroponic and they grow fast and big for autos. I just have no luck in soil.
I have grown photoperiods and plan to again in the future for sure. For now I was hoping to try to grow a few different autos at the same time and get to try different strains more often.
I’m currently growing a sour diesel auto and Girl Scout cookie extreme auto both from ILGM with ac infinity bases and grow dots. I’m on day 50 or so and it’s going good. I sort of envisioned the same for a 4x4 just more plants. I was thinking 6 in a tent total in pairs every 30ish days. At least for now. Who knows, maybe I’ll use my tent I have now and grow photos in that while I’m figuring out a new 4x4.
I have a few different AC infinity products right now as well. I’m happy with them all so far and they’ve always replaced anything I’ve had a problem with.
I’m looking at their evo6 I believe it is, and by all accounts I believe it has pretty good reviews.
I think that Myfriendis410 was letting yoy know that you don’t necessarily need autos to grow different strains on different timelines. If you run photoperiod plants on short light schedule like 12/12 they will pretty much behave just like autoflowering plants. They will grow until sexually mature and then transition to flower just like they do naturally near the equator.
To answer your question, you could also do this with autos in 4x4. You would just want to watxh your plant count to make sure you have the necessary room when wanting to start new plant(s)
Yes, you can do 6 autoflower plants in the 4x4 tent. Keep in mind all auto flowers will grow different in height and width some get really big some stay really small.
If you get 6 monsters you’re going to have a really hard time in a 4x4 trust me I’ve been there I’ve done that. Is it impossible? no just very difficult to maneuver anything.
If you’re going to do 6 I suggest investing in about 10 milk crates you’re going to need them.
To keep the canopy level for perfect lighting for every plant adjustments in height will be needed. The milk crates are perfect for that.
If you are a new grower I suggest starting with 4 plants and get the experience without overcrowding and frustration.
As for a light for a 4x4 tent it gets no better than the viper spectrum KS5000 it will flower 6 autoflowers in a 4x4 with absolutely no problems. The light was originally $700 and is now on sale on Amazon for half that (yes my dumbass paid 675 for it but worth every penny) you can buy it for $369 with Amazon’s $100 coupon included in the ad. Trust me you will not find this caliper of a light for $369 any place.
I say this with all sincerity, there are two things that you do not want to be cheap on lighting & nutrients
Good luck to you
Thanks for your response!
I’m hoping to do the 6 autos all at different times. Start 2, 30 days later another 2, 30 days later another 2. I’m assuming and hoping it’ll give me more room in the tent in case one of them did get bigger than expected.
The milk crate idea is a great one, I think I’ll start stocking up.
I’ve been growing off and on since the pandemic hit. Haven’t had to buy any since about 4 months after the pandemic hit, but I’m always wanting to improve and learn more. I still consider myself a new grower though.
A few of my grows were on the more crowded side for sure. I’ve grown out 3 autos in my 2x4 at the same time, that got a little crowded. 2 autos in my 2x2 which also was pretty crowded. One of my last grows at my old place was 2 photos in my 2x4, I put an auto I had growing in there as well. That was a mess, but I got them to the finish line.
I definitely am going to start off slow though. 2 at a time and see how it goes. I know I could pull some massive weight in a 4x4 with photos and at a later date that sounds awesome! Right now though I’m hoping to just grow some different strains quick and easy, see what we like and go from there.
That light looks interesting and I’ll surely look into it! I’m open to any and all suggestions on lights. I just want to go the buy once cry once route this go around.
As far as nutrients go. At this point I’m growing 2 with grow dots in roots organics and am loving the simplicity. It almost is taking the fun out of it. I say that jokingly, but at the same time, damn does it make it easy. I have not seen the finished product yet though so we will see.
I’ve only grown in happy frog soil with fox farms trio in the past. I would like to try Jacks 321 and maybe even try some coco. Too be honest, we just moved from a prohibition state to a legal state so we’re just enjoying relearning it all without the threat of prison time. lol
In my opinion that would be disastrous! Autoflowers grow quick. If you stretched out six plants into three groups of two at 30-day increments you would have three totally different size plants in your tent.
Each group would require a different percentage of light also it would require a different height of the light
That would get incredibly challenging to accommodate the girls. You might really want to think about that. It would really complicate your tent.
Simplicity is the key word here. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I use Fox farm Happy frog and I’ve only had one problem with a bad batch that was out of date and had the swinging pH issue. For me it was caught very easy and very easy to fix so I’ll continue to use Fox farm Happy frog until I come across a serious issue with it.
This hobby is about trying new things until one comes up with a simplified productive solution to all the obstacles in growing and a routine that works and it’s simplified. That’s when this becomes fun ![]()
No problem at all. I sit at 40-45% rh all the time here mostly. I have staggered plants in my large tents always. Typically a photo or 2 and autoflower fillins. Thing with auto is the boogers grow just fine under 12/12. If dli is close can grow them with flowering photo. If all auto can have them at all stages. Just keep conditions in that nice gray area. I am rebuilding my perpetual right now. Got lazy. The big photo in the net vegged a long while with the auto till gave her a 3x3 house.
I use stands when needed to even the light out myself @Lostgirl . Seedlings are down low. Vegging tall riser. Flower smaller or none after stretch… I also have 3 lights going normally giving me 3 areas to raise/lower or dim. Rectangle.
With three separate lights it would be easy to do. However, with one big 4x4 light it would be almost impossible
I have done it but you are right it can be a pain. Used to run hlg 550r. Once you have it down and cycling it smooths out.
I think the worst thing I ever did was 9. (yes 9) autoflowers in a 4x4 You want to talk about cramped. I also had 3 monsters in their. Never again!
That is a lot. I have 11 in the 5x5 but 5 are seedlings so ill have a couple done before they start filling out. I have overdone it a few times myself. Too many hit stretch same time and inside of tent just disappeared.
Thanks for the advice you guys. You’ve definitely given me some stuff to think about.
Worse case I guess I just run my plants together. I have multiple tents, but really wanted to compress it down to one big one.
What kind of lights do you have if you don’t mind me asking?
I have es300. Dont makem anymore unfortunately.
I ended up ordering a 4x4. For the time being I’m going to use my 2 hlg 260r lights in the tent and try to grow 2 at a time under each light. L
You will do great.
520w in 4x4 using 2 hlg. 6 plants in that footprint easy. 2 seedling. Less light…edges. 2 vegging medium light…more in the footprint. 2 in flower…smack dab in best part of footprint. All auto. Always 18/6. Perpetual. As they harvest and move up new ones in. The ruderalis in the auto are very very hardy. I have found an RH anywhere between 35-55 does just fine all the way. I am back to a true perpetual myself. Just reset. I have a 3x3 to drop my mothers in when ready. Photo can grow fine with auto as auto can handle a flip from 18/6 to 12/12 no problem. Just some ideas to add to your bag. Million styles. Havingb2 lights vs 1 opens up a lot of leeway in the tent. Pound the flower girls while caressing the youngsters. Here is a pic of my 5x5 reset. Photo and auto mix. 3 stages.
