Noticing leaves turning a lighter color gradually over time using fox farm potting soil in a water only setup. Plant is about 7 weeks. Is this normal? Is it bad? Could it be the plant is getting too big for my pot?
The FF mediums will typically feed for approximately 4-6 weeks with water only. This particular plant is showing nutrient deficiency signs. What nutrient line do you have for feeding. You can test the nutrients in the medium using the run off or a soil slurry test, the latter is more accurate but most cultivators just test the run off at feeding time
Just water only. Not using nutrients, just what’s in the soil but I do have the ff trio for my dwc
I have done any runoff.
I have NOT done any runoff
With just straight FF soiks that have been organically amended the run off isn’t as important as when you start using synthetic fertilizer. Any medium used with synthetic fertilizers should be fed to liberal run off to prevent a salt accumulation in the root zone. The salt build up can tank the PH and drive up the PPMs creating lockout. Do you have a TDS pen to measure input and run off PPMs? The Trio is notoriously salt heavy so I would mix each gallon of feed at 800-1000 PPMs
I’m new to all this but yes I have a pen I use with my dwc and keep that typically around 850-925 ppm. Can I water with that solution? If so, daily? With runoff? 20%?
Yes and perfect numbers. Unlike hydro or coco, soil needs a drench to drought routine. The drench to liberal run off keeps a healthy root zone and going through the drought cycle provides the needed oxygen to the roots
Thank you. Much appreciated
Anytime Growmie, tag me going forward and I’ll help all I can
Soil PH range is 6.3-6.8…6.5 is optimum
Im going to use the nutes today at water time and check the runoff ph?
Keep me posted Grow Bro, let about a cup or more run out and then catch a sample to test. The first run of will comes from the bottom of the pot where most of the salts have accumulated, after that the run off will come from the root zone
@OGIncognito if i did it right, this is what i had going in vs runoff.
In:
7.5 ph
930 ppm
1.8 ec
Out:
5.67 ph
1760 ppm
3.5 ec
Good input numbers. The 5.6 on the PH is pretty low and most likely preventing nutrient uptake. The 1760 PPMs is pretty high. It’s going to to take some time to get that PH back in range using a routine feeding or watering schedule. I would recommend a reset flush to get that PH back in range. This will take 3 times your pot size in water or a flushing agent. 3 gallon vessel can take 9-12 gallons ran through it. When flushing pour in slowly so it doesn’t run over the top and check the PH after 5-6 gallons, you’ll most likely flush the PPMs down around 300-400 by the time the PH is in range so follow up with a good feeding
So can I use plain water to flush? Now that i just watered should i wait to flush or should i do this asap, today? I watered about 2 hours ago @OGIncognito
I would consider doing it now seeing as your feeding was this recent. Yes plain water will work unless you have the FF sledgehammer?? FF recommends periodic flushing but when I used it if I fead to liberal run off I could prevent the flushes
Im on it. Thanks
