My Soil Feeding Schedule vs. New 2022 FoxFarm

Hello ILGM Community!

What do you think of my modified Soil Feeding Schedule?
I’m growing Trainwreck Autos from Crop Kings Seeds (expecting 58-63 days til harvest, just under 9 weeks).
Therefore, I made my own schedule which excludes the orange section (since I don’t own); I am also giving 6-11 days for water only after my last flush on day 52, then no more nutes in order to improve taste. Also, I used FF Ocean Forest Soil so I did not add liquid nutes until week 4.

Do you use Grow Big during flower? (bottle says to stop but schedule says to continue)
Do you use the same dosage as recommended or half or 1/4?
I noticed the new 2022 foxfarm schedule (below) has lower amounts per gal. of Grow Big and Tiger Bloom (vs. older versions) which makes sense since they have been known to be too strong.

Hi there. Welcome to the neighborhood :grinning:
I don’t use these nutes, but someone will be here shortly, I’m sure. You can probably add a couple more weeks to what the breeders say. Your girls will let you know when they are ready.

Have you tested your ph in and runoff? ppm numbers will let u know when to feed or not

Hi beachglass,

Yes I tested the later part of runoff and had 3800 EC and 1888 ppm, and 6.8 - 7.0 ph. I was using well water with 444ppm, so I am going to flush with sledgehammer and then 7.0 ph / 0 ppm filtered water. I am expecting a lower than 1000 ppm in the next runoff since I believe there are excess salts near the bottom of the pot from letting it sit in runoff in the earlier weeks when I didn’t know that it is bad to keep the pots continuously sitting in significant amounts runoff which promotes rotting.
When do you start to feed regarding ppm runoff amounts?

Keep your ph at about 6.5 to 6.8

We will need some pot porn pics. :yum:

Today: Day 30:

I was going to shoot for a ph of 6.2 - 6.5 during feeding, since my soil is already close to 7.0 with the dolomite lime.

I was going to shoot for 7.0 ph with 0 ppm during plain watering…or should I use my tap water which is 6.4ph and 444ppm?

Just for the heck of it, look under the leaves and see if you have any crawling pests.

Regarding the first flush there should be no need to flush with fed for only one week. Fox Farm’s accumulates but not that bad.

Be care of the ppm / ec units.
Fox Farms ppm amounts are based on 700 scale.
EC of 3300 is 3.3 X 700 = 2310 ppm. The 500 scale is more common around here (US). When a ppm number is given, for example 1200 during flower, this converts to EC of 2.4

Follow the Feeding Schedule and not the bottle. The bottle has general instructions for gardeners growing petunias.
It is customary to ease plants into the FF feed schedule. 50% to start is good. Another thing is FF nutrients are usually given on a feed - water only - feed schedule. If your plants did well on 50% and they have graduated to 100% you give 100% of the recommended dose on feed days.

Be sure to water & feed enough volume to have lots of runoff. pH everything going in and runoff.
I used the Trio for a year or more in Ocean Forest soil.
Good Luck

I agree with beardless and beachglass…one thing i may add, is if you are not flowering by the time the soil depletes, resume wk4 untill they do. Flush every third week after nutes. I do not do autos but makes me wonder how they handle the flush. I as well use ff nutes all the trio and solubles. I may switch to jacks coming up just so i dont need to flush, tired of the flushes and my back is too…unfortunately if your running all of em, you def need the flush.

Very interesting. Makes much more sense now since I was getting just about double the EC when compared to the ppm.
I was going to flush because of the salt build-up from letting the fabric pots sit in the runoff after 3 waterings over 12 days. I now have pot elevators…

But, I think now that I have zerowater filters that make the ppm = 0, I can just water one more time without feeding using the zerowater and make sure I have plenty of runoff as suggested!

FF Trio users usually have a calcium or magnesium deficiency sometime during flower. You’ll need some CaliMagic from General Hydroponics or comparable to supplement the Trio on the water only days.

Good that you now have risers.

Thanks for noticing. I had a WPM problem earlier due to poor humidity and ventilation controls. I fixed the ventilation added a HEPA system. I treated with neem oil twice and then ended up sticking with milk/water 40/60 for the best option for organic fungicide (which is the white residue).
As for the yellowing and breaking: I removed that leaf when pruning and checked the underside and it was healthy.
Also, at the beginning my soil was super hot I later learned; it was the 5’s for ph.
I’m thinking the leaf looks this way because of the following:
Hot soil + WPM during early veg + lower RH to 35% to treat WPM + 83 degree temps + maybe not raising the lights soon enough.

I guess i have been doing it wrong again. oh man…I get the ec # 3.4 x 500 =1700??

Based on beardless, you can just measure the EC and make it match the EC on the chart. But if you want to convert the EC to ppm and still use the chart you would take your US digital meter and take the EC then multiply that by 0.7 to get the equivalent ppm.

I have a US meter which shows EC and ppm (ppm is 0.5 x EC).
Look at the blue meter…I am using the same water and EC is 3688 and ppm is 1836 in second photo (which is just about 50% of EC).

Thanks, I will hold on the sledge flush until having used FF nutes for 3 weeks.

thanks again beardless, I actually just bought foxfarm cal-mag. I thought it would be best to stick with the foxfarm brand for cal-mag since I thought it might work better with the other FF nutrients. I have noticed many other users using other brands of cal-mag such as Bontanicare (which I was considering). I’ll now have to look into Calimagic too.
