(1) Do I still have to burp the jars if I am using humidity packs?
(2) Vacuum sealing the jars? When? Immediately (if not burping) or after a while?
(1) Yes, burping is necessary for gas exchange.
Many growers don’t use humidity packs during the cure. It has been said that doing so can affect taste and smell.
(2) I seal my jars after 2 to 3 weeks of curing. I only do so after I am assured that RH is stabilized at ~60%.
Have you thought of using “grove” bags? So much easier than jars and burping 2-3 times a day. Fill the bags after and forget it, worth every penny.
I love my Grove Bags but I will say, my personal experience says don’t buy too big of a bag. I had 11 pounds to bag up so I went ahead and bought 4 huge bags (I think they were 5 gallon (?) but I’ve had to get more small bags, split up all of that, and re-bag it. Now the RH seems to be holding. I even tried vacuum sealing the large bags but that didn’t help either.
@Caligurl I have 1oz bags for my biggest…
Apparently, they don’t recommend vacuum sealing grovebags.
They instruct to leave air in the bag and heat seal the bags to use the “technology” of the bags for best results.
They also recommend sweating the bud in paper bags before grovebags.
All that 4 sure
I use a plastic container near the end of the drying cycle and open and close it until humidity inside stays around 65%. Open and “toss” when Rh gets above 70%.
I have those and 1/2 oz size. I really like the 1 oz. solid black with no window.
@Caligurl I didn’t know that they printed that finally… I reuse bags… Bought them when they first came out. Mine don’t have the heat seal message.
I have not had a surplus to store quite yet so I just zipper seal and then reuse until they get damaged or punctured.
Like I said, I tried it and the difference was marginal. I have too many to do that to anyway. I transferred all mine from the big bags (2 pounds) to 1 ounce or 1/4 pounders and I like it much better. If I had room in the beer fridge, I’d put it all iin mason jars and put them in there but I would need a full stand up fridge all to myself LOL… for each grow season
I have enough bags to get me through the year… Usually two grows plus storage/current use bags. Haven’t bought bags for sometime now.
I have started ramping up my production in a large tent so I hope to need some of those by the end of the year.
Yeah, I’m kicking all 4 (I know, that’s all… for now) outdoors again so they’ll be monsters.
I bought grove bags. First round i got the huge ones. Didnt know the difference. But, after this last harvest the big bags will be full i bought some smaller bags for personal.
I use plastic containers and burp every day. Wat ive ALWAYS Done is lay the buds/branches in the sun. Ok for the lsd autos i was so happy. They grew so well and looked great. Even the side nug as looked Good! Ok o dried in the sun. Wen the sun was out nice and thst took couple weeks to month. I trimmed and kept moist while i waited. I put in sun a cpl days ago. Some got to dry and i had to add moisure so i used mostly hali oranges peeling and main stems. I expected it to be kick ass. Its Not. I grew Bruce Banner auto last time and it was GOOD! I wanted to try lsd auto cuz i love acid. But its Not Good. Its so weak. And font ask me all those questions cuz i cant answer. This rooms been growing weed for Years and no. Problems Ever. I need for me for pain and relaxing. My adult daughter has mental issues and we tried drs, psychiatrists, meds, Everything But nothing helped her like smoke does. Please help me
Welcome to the forum @Karen42
This makes me think you may not want to hear what we say but I will try to help where I can
Bright light and especially sunlight will degrade THC. It is recommended for all cannabis to be slow dried in the dark at 60deg f and 60% Rh.
The two have absolutely nothing in common besides the name.
That can be the result of any number of issues during the grow.
This support forum is separate from the seed shop. Any quality of product issues need to be addressed there.
This is the link to them.
@Karen42 first let me ask. Do you have area inside that you can hang and dry in? Reason i ask is that you need to allow your bud to dry slow. I use a hanging basket now, but i also old school by tying twine to the end of a branch and let her hang. Average dry time is 7 to 10 days at aboit 50 to 60% rh in a dark room. After it dries, it needs to go into jars or grove bags. With jars or a container, it needs to burped at least once a day for the first two weeks and then once a week after that as long as the bud is not getting too moist. This is the curing process. Some strain takes 30 days some longer to preserve trichome and terpenes. Here is what i use.
My problem for sure.
Storage is a new concept.
Previous attempts at long term storage, not impressive.
New technology for trying.
Burping and sweating, for sure.
I bought two 1 LB Grove bags and love em. I put about twelve OZ in each this time. Just squeeze out excess air and close the zipper. Vacuum seal wouldn’t make sense because they breath to regulate 62% moisture.
No burp (unless you’re grabbing a handful).
@Caligurl, question when you dry open air with air conditioning. This is my first photo grow does your buds smell like hay? Also what’s up with the bags? I want to get it right the first time thanks
