Harvesting my buds

I’m chopping some Bruce Banner autos right now. The drying and curing seem to be my weakest area. Anybody got insights?

Not sure what your experience level is, but ideally you will want to get environmental factors dialed in. Many people will tell you to go 60% humidity 60 degrees f This will give you a nice slow dry ,which will allow buds to retain terpenes. Smoother, more flavorful smoke. I attempt to get my environment into the mid 60’s and 60% humidity. BTW Welcome to ILGM forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Dry for 7 to 10 days at ~60% relative humidity and ~68F.

Cure with the same conditions in a Mason jar or a Grove Bag. If using jars you will want to open (burp) the jars a couple of times each day for the 1st week, then daily for another week or 2. How long people cure is all over the place. I cure for 3 weeks, others will cure for as short as 2 weeks or as long as 2 months.

Also you need good airflow into drying area if possible. But nothing blowing directly on the buds.

Sorry, I keep thinking of other things to add. As far as your cure, are using glass jars? If so it’s important to have your humidity levels between 58-62% Make sure you are checking levels regularly, open and burp jars a couple of times a day, if possible. You also may want to consider Grove Bags, I’ve been using them for a few years now and couldn’t be happier. No more burping jars :+1:

Been growing about 5 years. It’s always been good buzzz but too harsh. I’m staying in stock but trying to improve quality

Thank you, I use mason jars. That’s exactly the info I was looking for. I’ve been cutting corners in the curing process. Only burping occasionally but for longer periods. I don’t recommend that. Stays wet too long. I need to kick up my diligence

Will look into Grove bags. I’m a newbie on that one

Hi and welcome aboard!
I have used grove bags for two years and have had great results. I found my harsh smokes were from either unwashed buds or from stuff I didn’t dry/cure well. I also go as close to 60/60 for drying, I shoot for 10 days in summer but only get about five days inw inter cuz the RH in the dry space is about 40%. Sweating the buds in a closed paper bag helps with that. I did have some coughtastic herb from my papaya bomb last night, and notice that my dry time on that was kinda short.

Some folks also use a water cure to help smooth out rough smoking herb. @JaneQP recently went through that process if yer curious

Again welcome; good luck with your harvest :+1:

You won’t be sorry using grove bags, I tossed all my mason jars 2 years ago.

So it looks like with grove bags you just dry it about 10 days, then assuming it’s right, pack it in like 1oz grove bags and in about a month just start enjoying your nugs til they’re gone, then refill the bags and repeat. Sound about right?

Yep. I do put a hygrometer in there if I am worried about the herb being too humid when I trim, check it after 24 hrs and if it is between 58-62% take hygrometer out and let it chill. I like a month at least in cure. Some folks like longer, some don’t care. But you will notice a difference if you try day1 dry vs day 31 dry/cure. I think it’s smoother when ya let it cure a few weeks
