How long are you drying/curing and at what temps/rh?

The hay smell/taste is due to chlorophyll still being in the plant matter. A good dry and cure will eliminate it.

I dry my stuff in my grow tent on dry racks 74 degrees 68 humidity and then cure

What would you recommend temp and time??

I dry at 60% RH and ~70F. It takes a week to 10 days. Same conditions for the cure. I use jars and burp them 2x a day for the first week, then daily for an additional 2 weeks.

Usually in glass jars a week to ten days on time. How long and what temp do you dry and what do you do for cure ??

Usually I dry, then cure in jars or Grove Bags for two weeks. If in jars I burp the jars daily. This the minimum cure time though. The longer the buds stay in the jars or bags after the first two weeks the better the taste. I have a bunch of Black Widow that was harvested last April, and I never liked the taste of this batch. That is until now, and it is starting to be much improvement in the taste.

I don’t really enjoy smoking my flower until after about 6 weeks of cure. It seems like it gets smoother over time. That is easier to do if you already have plenty to carry you for that long.

Very interesting…So the grow was fine, dried properly, and you didn’t like the smell/taste a couple weeks from chop; but it is appealing ~9 months later after sitting in the dark at ~60%/70F?

I keep my weed in sealed Mason jars with a 58% Boveda pack for longer term storage. I’ve noticed that the longer weed sits, the smoother the smoke, as if it continues to cure months after the initial cure.

It continues to smooth out until ~6 months of storage. I can’t tell a difference after that.

:musical_note:Like a fine wine :musical_note:

I’ve experienced similar and nuanced improvement makes sense like with tobacco, especially for those that combust; but @Ickey’s situation almost sounded like the harvest/cured product wasn’t good early in the cure but got better…I’ve never heard/experienced something unappealing becoming appealing, just rare occasions of the reverse depending on storage conditions, or the more normal gradual improvement/ “smoothing.”

I think this is important to know…thanks for the personal reference.

Just my own personal opinion based on my experience whether I use jars or Grove bags I don’t like anything that hasn’t had months to sit in my dark closet.

And how do you have the patience to wait so long you might ask???

They saying around here is you gotta have weed to grow good weed lol!! :joy:

I think that harvest of Black Widow went wrong was after the light flip. Was my first run with AutoPots and Jacks 321. After the flip the Black Widow and only the BW looked hungry. I switched the BW to Mills Nutrients, and this made the plant green back up. But I think I ended up using too much nitrogen late in the game. It seems that it just takes time for the harsh taste to go away.
This grow I ran Jacks RO up to the flip, then Jacks 222 with MPK for three weeks, and then 321. 4 1/2 weeks from flip and everything thing is looking great this time. Just some burnt leaf tips on a couple of them.
