So after drying and curing my BB for about 3 weeks - 1 month, I still have a hay flavor and smell! Wondering if I should dry my harvest more and go back to jar curing thereafter? Then I also heard the hay issue is more common with Autos? But, yeah….HELP!!!
Funny this I did a bb and had no smell just tasted of hay what lights are you using
I used a Electric Sky 300.
Do you have a picture is that a blurple light… Did you plant have any issues whilest growing?
Not a blurple. No major issues during grow.
I personally am now using a Mars hydro ts600 and I’ve not had any issues as yet… If you don’t have a blurple and it’s a white sun type light the only thing I can think is how long was it dried for and at what temperature
Sorry to hear that
Mine smelled of hay but it was replaced with dank
I can’t remember time frame but it seems like it was about a week and a half
If yours still smells like horse treats, maybe a longer cure will fix, I hope so
It happens. Not sure the cause. Slower drying and longer cures seems to do better. One of my latest runs persist with it, but I can always turn it to tincture or edibles.
I have it on indoor and outdoor grows, so it’s not lighting. The same fertilizer and watering schedule. If you figure out what causes it and can bottle a cure, you’ll probably make a fortune.
The hay smell comes from the chlorophyll. A slow dry and long cure usually does away with that. Drying too quickly or letting the buds get too dry can make it stick around as you’ve allowed many of the good smelling terps to evaporate off. Also 2 weeks of water only before harvest can help as that gets a jump start on the reduction of chlorophyll.
What RH are the buds at? Were containers burped regularly? Drying too much certainly won’t help with the smell, just more loss of terps.
How good was your trim job? As it’s usually from too much leaf
Finally getting some decent smell and taste. Seems it still has a bit longer to go on curing though, but I am seeing a improvement as time goes by. I think next run I am going to dry it for 10-12 days vs 7 days. @2GreenThumbs and that makes a ton of sense! It wasn’t the best trim job. Something else I will have to try to improve the next time around. Thanks cool cats and kittens!
