I usually make edibles with butter, trying coconut oil this time. How long do y’all simmer coconut oil for? I usually simmer butter and cannabis for about 3 hours. Thanks y’all
Also infused with 151 vodka after decarbing. Can i make concentrates with this after letting it sit?
I let mine sit in the double boiler all day. I know it’s overkill, but I read that the longer you let it go the more THC you can get to transfer from the buds to butter/oil.
Do you use an emulsifier like sunflower lecithin?
I do not. I guess I should be?
Yeah, it’s an important step if you’re looking for the finished product to have maximum strength. I’ve always used sunflower lecithin powder, but I recently found out it’s available in liquid form. So as soon as I run out of the powder I’m definitely going to switch to the liquid. Sometimes the powder gets a bit lumpy and I have to stir it forever until they’re all gone.
And so I would add it to the oil as it simmers?
Yes, this is an instruction page for making cannabis cooking oil that came with the Magical butter machine I used back when I first started. I’ve since ditched the machine because I make much larger batches now, but I still follow the recipe.
Actually I don’t follow it exactly, I use almost twice the amount of weed they suggest, lol.
I definitely did not pre grind botanicals! Threw whole flowers in! If I had to guess I put about 2 to 3 ounces in with 32 ounces of oil.
Did you decarboxylate it first?
Yes and I broke down the bigger flowers before hand. About an hour let to simmer
I use the coconut oil for a few things, but mostly brownies. I store the oil for brownies in 2/3 of a cup portions because that’s the amount that the Pilsbury brownie mix calls for. The other big brands like Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines only call for half a cup. So I always use the Pillsbury because I figure the extra amount of oil will make them that much stronger.
How do you store the infused coconut oil?
I used quite a bit in those cookies lol
I measure it and pour it into tupperwares while it’s still melted, then put it in the refrigerator to solidify. Once it’s hardened, I vacuum seal the pucks. If I’m going to use them soon I keep them in the refrigerator, but if I’m keeping them long term I stick them in the freezer.
I’ve never used the alcohol method. I just use a big double boiler and simmer it all day.
I don’t know what a double boiler is……will google
It’s a pot within a pot, with water boiling in the lower pot. This way your oil/butter in the inner pot can’t get scorched with a flame beneath it. It’s only boiling water heating the upper pot with the stuff in it.
