3 Strain Outdoor Grow Journal

High Everyone!

I decided to document my second grow journey through this grow journal. I will post weekly updates and of course any hiccups along the way. I would love to hear feedback and advice if you have any. I am growing an Orange Sherbet Auto and a Gelato Auto in 5gal pots and 2 Northern Lights Auto’s in 2gal pots! All the ladies are 14 days from sprouting today, except one of the Northern Lights is at 7 days!

The plant labeled Northern Lights #2 is the one thats a week behind

The Orange Sherbet and Gelato are in Coast of Maine Platinum Growers mix, and the Northern Lights are in a COM/FFOF blend. I added a little extra perlite to all of the pots.

Exciting grow journey you got there. Orange Sherbet and Gelato autos sound delicious, and Northern Lights autos are a classic strain known for their chill vibes. Can’t wait to see how your plants do and don’t hesitate to ask for advice from the community. Happy growing!

Thanks for tagging along! My game plan is to just use low stress training for them by bending horizontal after the 4th or 5th node appears to maximize main colas!

And for one of the Northern Lights I may just tie down the side branches to see if I can achieve an even canopy that way.

First hiccup has arrived…

Has anyone had any luck repairing a snapped seedling?? Looks like a bird or squirrel got into the pots this morning and snapped the Northern Lights #2

For now I just have her supported with a paperclip! Hopefully that will be good enough :crossed_fingers:

Paper clip s should work just fine. If it slips in the wind, or happens again, I like to just mound up loose soil around the broken/bent stem. Like a volcano. The loose soil will flatten out later again after watering and as the plant grows.

The volcano seems much more sturdy than the paperclip, thanks for the tip!

The plants are now 3 weeks old today (except Northern Lights #2). Up to this point I have just been watering as needed PH’d to 6.5. On the next watering I will start adding CalMag (5mL/gallon) to each watering. At week four I plan to start feeding with the Fox Farm Trio.

Northern Lights #2 seems to have recovered fine from the bent stem

Started LST today on the Orange Sherbet, Gelato, and Northern Lights #1. For the Orange Sherbet and Gelato I plan on doing a more extensive LST to get all of the side branches as tall as the main.

And for the Northern Lights #1 I plan to bend it just a little bit, switching sides each day, just to give the side branches a little jump start. And then pretty much let it grow naturally and do its thing.

The ladies are 4 weeks old today (Besides Northern Lights #2). They are looking nice and growing like a weed!

Still continuing LST on the Orange Sherbet and Gelato. I have been rotating the pull down side every other day on the Northern Lights #1 to ensure all nodes are getting ample light! Im also considering topping Northern Lights #1, any inputs or suggestions on that?? And for Northern Lights #2, i’m still just letting her do her thing, i’m enjoying watching her grow natural without any LST or intervention!

I started adding 5mL/gal of CalMag with each watering last week. It looks like they’ll be ready for some water this evening, so I think I am going to go ahead and start feeding Fox Farm Trio at a half dose of their recommended Soil Feeding Schedule.

Poor little thing…But great job man! It looks like you’ve got it to snap back…MJ is very resilient…cant wait to see more…P.S. I like those Fab pots…I usually see and use black…But I’m liking those too what Brand? Where did you buy those ?

Yes I was shocked how fast she recovered from the snap! The 5gal pots are Coolaroo brand, and the 2gal pots are Vivosun, both purchased from Amazon!

Decided to go ahead perform my first ever “topping” on the Northern Lights #1. I will post a good pic of her tomorrow, couldnt seem to get a clear pic at night with the flash!

Not sure exactly what im gonna do with her from here. Im thinking of trimming off all the lower nodes beside the one directly below where I topped, so then I can just have four main tops! I would love to hear any input you may have, or pics of previous toppings you have done!!

Also check out this node spacing on the Orange Sherbet, looks like shes gonna give me a hard time with LST😂

looking good, have fun with the training and topping but don’t go overboard with it for auto plants as you can end up with little bushes of budding plants

unlike for indoor grows the benefits of creating an even canopy seems less important outdoors as there is plenty of light for all!
