Yield/Veg Time in Seed Description

How many weeks of veg time are considered when calculating yield/area in the seed description ? For example if the yield says 2-3 oz per sq ft, how long in veg time for that yield ?

That would depend if it’s an autoflower or a photo.

An autoflower typically lasts 4 weeks in the vegetation stage until they start to preflower

Photo’s stay in the vegetation stage until you flip the lights to 12 and 12

As to how many ounces per square foot. I believe this is subject to many different aspects of the grow itself. I believe that figure is more of a marketing statement than anything. (My opinion)

Breeders estimates are notoriously inaccurate and assume an ideal growing environment and a professional grower. Growers’ individual environments vary widely as well, particularly among newer growers. There is, unfortunately, no way to make a valid estimate from breeder estimates.

Yield will of course go up with longer veg times.

I concur.

Okay, maybe I should’ve asked "When do they suggest you flip to 12/12 ?

My basement ceiling is just over 6 ft, so I usually flip after a couple of weeks. I’ve even started some runs at 12/12. Knowing, of course, the less time in veg means less yield.

Your constraint then is height. Keep in mind that a plant can double in size during the first 4 to 5 weeks of flowering.

Yep. Also, back in the 80s when I first started indoors, I used 1000w Metal Halide & an 840 HPS for flowering. Expensive electricity & meter spikes were also constraints. I don’t think I’ve ever gone more that 4 weeks in veg. Big fan of Ed Rosenthal back then.
