What's Wrong! First Time Growing

I know I read it somewhere but clearly seems to be fine. It’s been used for 100’s of years so makes sense.

And I’m sure I was high.

cleaning clay pots after they’ve been used may be the biggest challenge…but that same white discoloration from dissolved salts shows the clay’s porosity allowing them to breathe and dry out faster after waterings…smart pots made with dumb materials?

“LIKE” Out of real ones.

@msparis2195 since you don’t know your ph yet, go easy on the water. When you do water, I use a spray bottle and only water around the edges around the pot to encourage the roots to see out the moisture and make a larger root ball.

If your able to collect rainwater that would be good to use. But whatever you use needs to be at room temperature and if it’s tap water let it sit out uncapped so that the chlorine can evaporate.

If you read around the forum there are hundreds of posts about soil and I would recommend you seek those out and make an informed decision.

As far as re-potting, I wouldn’t do anything like that right now.

Hows she looking today? @msparis2195

Not sure about yours but I have literally loved one to death before . Don’t follow my advise as I am a new grower also but on my first try the girls did best when I wasn’t hovering over them ringing my hands wondering what to do next . When I followed some of the guy’s advice on just letting them have a break and remember it’s a weed and genetically designed to be pretty self sufficient. I try to follow what the guys with the mentors or admin tags by thier names . Good luck hope you find the help you need.

I believe that she is dying lol, so might just start over.

Soil looks super dry when was last time you watered her ? And misting is better at that stage just till soil is moist

yeah, not looking too good there. I think you might be right.

The last time i water it was last nit, useing a spray bottle. So I’m just gnna start over, with that should i used the same soil or get Fox Farma Ocean soil, heard that pretty good? @countryboyjvd1971

Ffof is to hot to start in, I started in mg potting mix as well just had to flush out some of the nutes due to it being to much nitrogen for my plants about 2/3 weeks in

ok, sounds good. Some say that the FoxFarm Ocean Forest is too hot, but I started my seedling in it and it’s been fine. FoxFarm does have a starting soil. I will link it for you. Give me a couple of minutes.

Light Warrior Seed Starter by FoxFarm

I linked you to the middle size bag but they have smaller ones.

I would also recommend you get a pH meter and pH your water. AND also pH UP and DOWN to make adjustments to your water.

What do you have for seeds? @msparis2195

I would save the miracle grow for your other house plants.

Happy frog is made by foxfarm is ok for starting I think
Actually @bob31 has the right stuff my bad
If you have to use mg product try to get cactus soil but you should start in soil ment for seed staring like the one bob suggested

It would also probably be better for you to start your plant off in a Solo cup with some holes in the bottom of it for drainage… so that your roots will establish themselves… when you throw a seed into a big pot like that chances of success are Slim due to over and under watering and also the plant will tend to work on Root production versus plant production and if you’re a newbie you will become concerned thinking that your plant has stalled out and try to do things to fix it , when in actuality there is nothing wrong it’s just that all the progress is being done below the dirt and not above the dirt… so next time start off in a Solo Cup which will be easier to manage and will help your plant to grow upwards as well as downwards just make sure you add drainage holes in the bottom of the cup…

:v::sunglasses:

Wnna say thx to everyone for the help & advice, so this time before i start a new one, i will get the FoxFarm soil & the PH meter first and start the seed in the solo cup. :relaxed: and i will give u guys a update one i start.

sure absolutely.

We enjoy walking through the process with you so you can do a grow journal. There is a section for that.

Whats the name of the section??

I am just a newbie but I did read somewhere not to use clay pots because they absorb water !

The reason folks question clay is because they transpire rapidly and cause those salt buildups on the outside of the pots. The salts are not a real issue because they are outside the pot and the “smart pot” analogy is close. You have to take more care because they can wick dry very quickly. Mostly tho they are just difficult to work with due to being fragile and heavy.

Most folks know my opinion on MG soil by now . Just bad soil for MJ unless you are very experienced. Too much nitro from poultry poop. Time release nutes kill babies.

Most of the seedlings I had probs with were actually under watering because I live in a dry state and didn’t adjust the advice I was getting to my area. Sometimes the spray is not enough. Soil for seedlings should stay as evenly damp throughout the pot as possible without being so wet it clumps on your finger.
