Hello Grow Family, I have been trying to figure out what causes this. I have searched high and low to find pictures that resemble this issue, to no avail. My best guess based on what pictures I could find on the inter webs that it is either a sulfur or iron def? IDK maybe light bleach? I am stumped, if any one has any advice on how to fix this It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your pictures didn’t load. I find it best to load one maybe two at a time

You need to wait for upload to complete prior to posting so we can see pictures.

Iron and sulfur deficiencies aren’t common with cannabis and if you’re applying base nutrients at reasonable ph is unlikely to be your issue, but it’s not very clear in your ticket if you’re keeping up with soil amendments or expecting your soil to carry a plant through full lifespan? Light damage will occur at very top of plant first and then not be prevalent lower on plants. This is often confused for iron or ph issues. Hopefully you can reload pictures.

I think they went through now?

I think a sulfur deficiency would start from the base of leaves (near petioles) and I don’t believe I’ve ever had to diagnose an iron deficiency. Looking at this, being light related wouldn’t be my first conclusion either. Do you know specifically that you feel light was too close? 100ish watt light from ac infinity should probably be ~18 or so inches from plants.

@Budbrother can you please take a look at these when you have a moment.

I was thinking the same or possible fan burn?

That’s a weird one for sure. Possible root issues from excess watering burning off fine hairs, Happy frog is a muddy mix that holds water. OR it’s variegation forced by micro imbalance. I’m getting contradictions to diagnosis. The larger shows typical Fe- present on upper leaves, but the new growth is coming in green not yellow. The smaller one has Zn tip burns on lower, but has no signs of it up top. Nothing lines up.

Edit: what’s the nutrition used and is the 6.2 the runoff numbers or what the input water is being pH’d

Cal-mag-Fox Farm -every other feed; about 100ppms not sure why I do this as I am still learning how to do this correctly.
Great White Powder every other week
RO Water
Note the HF soil was amended with diatomaceous earth, and per light.
I have not given them any form of bottled nutes yet both plants were transplanted into new happy frog soil Jan 29th. So. Now I am thinking now they are hungry as the soil will only feed for a few weeks but my last runoff numbers came out with A PH of 6.5 and 789ppm for the SC and the runoff for the SLH was PH6.2 ppm 1130. So in my mind they still have food in the soil. As for the light note I only have it on a setting of 5 of which is ruffly 50watts on this 2x2 ac infinity 112 watt light.

That’s a tone of Ca inputs and could explain the micro imbalances as locked out.

Not necessary to continually add mycos.

Lacking in micros and could account for some depletion from base soil.

Reading the PPMs here is tricky cause the meters can’t distinguish between the available nutrition and the non. If showing 789, that has mostly depleted the organic nutes the HF medium supplied and is time to feed. Even at 1130 you could feed 1/4-1/2 strength because ~500 ppm is still unavailable nutrition.

Ok, so to summarize, I need not give them mycos anymore, I should back off on the cal-mag, and I am ready to start feeding nutes to the SC, and 1/4 -1/2 does to the SLH. I will post the next runoff numbers with pictures to follow up once its time to water again. IS there anything else specifically I should do to aid in the recovery of these plants?

Also on a side question to all of you long time growers that have been successful, at this. Do you follow the same steps every grow? I get that you will switch it up. But in reality do you all germinate your seeds the same way every time? I would think the answer in general would be “yes” so then I ask the question when you germinate and have a seedling do you have your light and a certain height? and do you have it at a certain wattage at that height? And then I would ask again do you do this every time you grow? And again I am sure you would say yes, and some times I switched it up. But what I am getting at here is that I am so tired of failing at this craft. I have tried and tried and tried to understand. I bought several books all of which completely teach me the biology of the species, and gives great information and is very informative but one common denominator that I find across the board is that I have not found a book out there that will give exact steps to take week by week on how to do things step by step. Now I get it dude you are crashing out here, not everyone grows the same and not all equipment and environments and nutrients and practices, and lots of things. But all I am saying is that I am sure some of you all out there are absolutely killing it, at growing strong healthy plants, and getting great end results. But all I am saying is if I knew what you all know I would be killing it as well. I mean like I would go as far as buying the same equipment if it meant that it came with lessons on when to raise the light how many watts at what stages, the feed SCH and measurements of jutriemnts…SOorry growmies, just tired of throwing plants away and starting over. Seeds arn’t cheap Any way if any of you know of a good book that can teach me step by step I am all ears and I really appreciate all of you and the help you offer this community. You all helped me a while ago ], and I am still in the trenches…Thanks for the help on this one I will keep you posted on the next feed wit pictures.

Those leaves aren’t gonna get better so look to new growth showing they’ve grown outta it.

I turn my lights down low. As for height, start off further away. They will tell you by stretching if you need to lower or raise it. Let the plants dictate what they need. Often I start seedling under florescent lights because they aren’t developed plants that can make use of all the light energy yet.

Not gonna find that with all the variables, but you will find feeding charts for product lines.

I understand your frustration. You’re in a great place to learn and get guidance. May I suggest you create a grow journal for us to follow along with your journey. Toss some tags to start and we’ll rally around you.

I’ve only grown cannabis for a few years but I grow a lot of vegetables/house plants so heres my 2 cents:

I could give you step by step instructions that would work for me, but every grow environment is unique, and really so is every plant to some degree.

On Seedlings/Germination:

Honestly I would just stop reading about germination/seedling care. It doesnt matter lol. Put a seed in the dirt, it will grow, or it wont. K.I.S.S.(keep it simple silly) is the name of the game and aint nobody got time to fuss over plants that arent even plants yet. No humidity dome, no special care. I grow mine under 4ft 40 watt GE led grow lights on a shelf until they get big enough to justify the energy usage of the tent. My average humidity is 35%.

On Lighting:

When it comes to light I follow the manufacturers recommendations roughly, and adjust based on how the plants react. I would rather sacrifice 5 DLI than burn my tops. I dont use a light meter of any kind. For my 300 watt light I aim for 8-10" away in flower, in veg I run at 75% roughly 18" away… but it depends on the light.

On Feeding:

Ive never used a specific feed line so I would follow their recommendations, but maybe use just under whatever they recommend.

If I was going to give someone some “fool proof” advice it would be grow a small plant in a big pot full of amended potting soil so you dont have to worry about nutrition or outgrowing the container at all, then follow the manufacturers lighting recommendations.
MY best advice:

Grow another kind of plant.

Now that doesnt mean stop growing cannabis, but consider growing a jalapeno or something in a small pot. Think 6" or so. The jalapeno will produce peppers in a small container like that, but it will also require you to feed it very regularly once it produces its first fruit, probably before(once or twice a week). I recommend peppers because they show nutrient deficiencies and recovery in very visible ways, as well as being able to handle “too much” fertilizer without too much issue as long as there is runoff. And they like roughly the same environment as cannabis so you can grow it along side if you want. Bell peppers are good for this too, and show deficiencies faster. But they might stop producing fruit in such a small container.

Cannabis isnt really too much different than any other garden plant, other than its ability to take a ton of light and way too much phosphorus. Plants talk, you just have to learn to listen.

  • Potential Causes: The symptoms often indicate improper pH levels, nutrient burn from overfeeding, or a nutrient deficiency.
  • Watering Advice: Ensure the soil is dry a knuckle deep before watering again to avoid issues.
  • Recommendation: Check both the pH of the water going in and the pH of the runoff to diagnose nutrient lockout.

OK< so if I start a new seed you all can help me through journal Step by Step?

Hey there @Q19Z6TC1 I thought I’d throw a couple thoughts your way. I’ve been at this a little over 4 years now, currently on my 8th grow, and imho, I barely feel above the novice level at times. Key thing? be patient and try not to get discouraged, forge on growmie!

Every grow seems to have presented it’s own unique issues to overcome, and individual plants develop their own uniquenesses (is that even a word?). Over time, you’ll begin to assimilate to their world, little by little. You may have super successful grows and others you wind up struggling through. I had calmag issues for two grows until I learned how much I needed to supplement with my well water.

Right now, and for the past 4 grows, I’ve been having the same success rate at germination (about 90%), but my luck has tanked on keeping them alive after they break surface, IF they even break surface. And you’re right, that sucks when seeds aren’t cheap, but I know I’ll eventually work it out, I’ve learned that with this hobby.

Your plants look to be healthy other than your plants’ current issue (talk about uniqueness - that’s an interesting color fade pattern! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: ) Looks like you’ve been doing things right this go-around to me. I agree with @Budbrother get you a grow journal started where we’all can jump in and assist when you need it. This is a great place, got me to where I am today!!

Happy growing.
