New to growing cannabis and seedlings soil is not exactly in the optimal range

I have a seedling that just sprouted its 1st set of true leaves. Its about 10 days old now; I’m growing outdoors. I took a soil reading and its high in alkalinity and nutrients are in the 5.0 range so, i made a spray bottle and added Lemon Juice and Advanced Nutrients Dyna Grow Super Thrive Foilage Pro formula to the water and sprayed it directly to the leaves. I just watered it 2 days ago on Sunday. Its not ready yet for another watering. Will this be okay to continue doing until the next watering?

Seedlings have their own built-in nutrition in the seed itself. I wouldn’t spray a seedling until it’s at least 14 days old.

Spraying the leaves with acidic water is a bad idea and doesn’t do anything for the root zone.
High alkaline soil would be above a pH of 7.
Above pH of 7 is alkaline and below is acidic.
Seedlings will tolerate a soil that is a little off so you can aim for a neutral 7. Best range for soil is 6.5 to 6.8. Many of us don’t cover or do anything to the plant once it sprouts. It will get what it needs from moisture in the soil. Roots grow incredibly fast and will find water.

I’m with @Caligurl and @Spiney_norman on this… I don’t introduce nutes until a few weeks after I am all done transplanting… Then only once the plants and meters show a need.

I want to thank everyone that replied. I really appreciate you taking the time out to help me. This is my first grow that is surviving my uneducated meathods of growing Cannabis. I tried last year and killed the seedlings with Miracle-Gro and to much watering and the first plants i started this year, i killed also, the same way. I finally humbled myself and started reading on how to grow this stuff. I always loved growing tomatoes and vegetables and always had a deep respect and fascination with the Cannabis plant and always wanted to grow my own. Now that i have my Medical Marijuana Card and its legal, i can finally accomplish my dream. Im going to have ALOT of questions so im going to keep this thread going instead of starting a new one every time i have one so i dont take up alot of space here. Thank you all for your support. Its about the plant here and i love it.

The pH is reading in the red at 8 on my soil meter. Its off the scale. The needle lays at the top and dosent move. It does need some acidity to bring it down to 7. The nutrients are in the 5.0 range. Sould i just let it go until i transplant it in 4 days or so?

Id use ph’water only. When my soil is aidic, i just up my pH in my water a few days. If my soil is alkaline i do the ipposute. Idk if thats :100: legit suggestion, thars just what I do when im using soil. Cannabis likes acidic soil. Whats your run off pH? Someone here can prob suggest aomething to mix in the top layer of soil, too. I just keep it simple and water, especially around the outer edge, with no nutes, higher pH water. And i dont give nutes until they are 14+depending on what im using as soil, or if and when they look like they are getting hungry.

If yiu are thar worried and preparing to transplamt in a few days…then just transplant now. Just be gentle. Iv had experiments going where i made my mediums so hot i had to tranplanr several extra times. They were much happier every transplant instead of sitting in whatever problem soil i used. This is one reason i love hydro. Lol. I do both. But i love controllig everything. Good luck!

My soil meter does not go into water. I cant really test the run off. Is there a way i can with the meter i use? Its not a digital meter its the analog type with the needle.

Can you post a pic of your soil meter? Hoping this isn’t the typical soil wet gauge with the needle for PH :love_you_gesture:

Exactly what I was going to ask…
If its the kind you stab into the dirt I suspect the reading you got was nowhere near correct. Nearly all outside soil in nature is neutral and around 7 unless amended.

Good old stick the finger in the soil up to your second knuckle works as does just going by how light the pot/cup feels. At early seedling stage I literally water with 1-2 Tablespoons of water each time and never around the stem. I call it their drip zone… if rain were to drop off the leaves, that is the perimeter you water around

I’m new to this forum so it blocked me for 7 hours from posting a reply.
I made my own soil. It was way over 7. I added some lemon juice and it drove it a little too high, in the red zone on my meter so then, i added baking soda and watered until i had 30% run off. Now everything is right where its supposed to be. I added some Black Strap molasses with a little dyna-grow Foilage Pro with it. I hope it will be okay in the morning and not all shriveled up. I hope i did the right thing.

They go through their activities of daily living. They perk up, the droop down, its usually a noemal thing. Temps and time of day…theres time lapse vids on you tube. They breathe! I can tell my soil girls need h20 bc the droop a bit. Imo is a good indicator so i dont overwater. I never water until they need it. They are doing their thing…theyve been doing it for eons…lol. andthey are perfect at ir. Twhen they are a healthy droopy, They get pliable (good time to lst) If the leaves get too tough oe brittle theres usually an issue in a young seedling. color is great and they look plump and shapely…appear healthy to me!!! no roughness or toughness to the composition on the edges and viens. Amd they are gaining leaves and nodes steady, right? Theyre so amazing!
