I have spent sooooo much time reading and trying to gain enough knowledge to finally start my first grow. Medical is over the top expensive and doesn’t allow flower where I am from, so even though I have my card it hardly helps my situation. Im looking for support and advice in every area specific to the space im getting ready and would appreciate anyone willing to help a girl out.
The room is windowless and is 8 ft wide, 12 feet deep and 9 foot ceiling. Should I partition the room off? Was thinking of building a faux wall so its 8x4. Do I need a tent or can I just use the room?
I was thinking of painting the walls a matte white but im not sure how to seal the ceiling area, if sheetrock will work i can spray foam and then install.
I need to order lights and ventilation but assuming it will depend on the finished room size, so if 8x4 works ill try that. Can I do a 18/6 light schedule at all times? I am so confused by the difference in lights as well as what’s best as there are soooo many opinions even on this forum.
I plan on planting 3 plants to start and then average 4 to 6 plants at once.
I was looking at the auto flower mix pack from ILGM. Since I only have 1 room and don’t want to mess with changing light times etc, can I grow different stages in the same room as well?
I can attach a picture when I get over there today I just wanted to get the ball rolling on pricing everything out. This entire project is going to be a long term investment towards health freedom and I am so thankful and appreciative in advance for anyone willing to take the time to offer advice or support. Some of your decisions will be based on your needs.
Do you need to control temps or is your room well maintained at growing temps.
Do you need to control the smell or can you just let it happen without worry.
If you dont have these needs you wont need to seal off a grow space.
If you need to control them then a tent is the easy way to control it.
Partitioning is fine but if you ever want to change the arrangement you will have to tear it down.
Thanks. I will need temperature control. Temps here range from 20 to 90 depending on season. Was thinking of using a digital space heater? Setting to 72 degrees Fahrenheit? It doesn’t get hot even on the hottest days so I may need to heat somewhat all year? Temp without heat source now is 58 degrees and it is 32 degrees out currently
And smell wouldn’t be an issue at all.
Thinking of the wall being set and tacked in place so I could move outward to deepen room later if needed.
First welcome to the community ! I would just like to say the bigger the space the more expensive it gets for lighting . Your 9-foot ceiling that’s great. If it was me I would buy me a 4 by 4 tent and put in the 8 x 12 foot room and and control the temperature in the room which you will be pulling the fresh air from. Tents being cheap hundred bucks . That’s just me that would be one option.

With autos you’ll be able to grow all stages at once since you won’t need to, and cannot, control flowering. I start my autos on a 24 hour lights on schedule. Then, once they start flowing, I’ll switch to 18/6 just to give them a break.
Should I partition the room off? In my opinion - no - not required; I have an almost identical room (a closet) - mine has an A/C vent; (don’t know your situation here);

Do I need a tent or can I just use the room? Personally, based on the grow information you provided, you will not need a tent - unless you are going to grow photoperiod plants with auto flowers. I have a separate room in my home where I will eventually be raising photoperiod plants.

From the money saved on the grow tent, invest in a better lighting system.
In my grow room, I also use a “scrubber” to reduce the odor. As your plants mature, some of them REALLY get quite “odoriferous”.
Since we are tossing around some ideas I’ll leave my .02 . An open room sounds great but with such temp fluctuations I would go with a tent for winter and open in the summer. I have temps that are in a similar range and I use a tent which works well in the winter to help regulate rh and temp.
A question is what lighting are you using? Trying to light a 4x8 for flower is different then flowering in a 4x4. I would go with a 4x8 tent with some hlg lights. Then you got plenty of room for whatever the future may hold. Good luck!

1 How much weed do you need?
2 How often do you need this amount?
3 How much $ you want to invest( keeping in mind good equipment isn’t cheap)
Yes a flat white wall paint has I think about 85% reflective properties, that is what I use and it works fine! If you go with a partition or tents you should be ok growing photos, I hear autos a picky about most things, plus you have no real control over them except training techniques!
