Seedling Watering Help

Update for my seedling: so I use a 1 gallon sprayer for my plant. The issue is, I don’t know if I’m watering too little or too much. I stick my fingers down in the soil and I notice the soil is wet about .5-1 inch but then feels pretty dry further below the surface. I also have not had any water run off yet either. I’m just being cautious I don’t over water as I hear that’s a very common mistake new growers make. From the picture she looks happy and healthy. From my last post, it’s leaves grew even more from when I check it this AM. How should I gauge how much water to use with a 1 gallon sprayer. I also don’t wanna end up under watering.

Also, are humidity domes very necessary? If it means fairly quicker growth or should I just water the soil as I have been.

I think you’re doing great. If it looks happy and healthy keep on doing what you’re doing :green_heart:
I’m pretty sure at that point you don’t need a dome…

All the advice I get is why it’s growing so well! I did add just a little extra water but check the soil to make sure it wasn’t too saturated and it had a healthy amount of moisture. I’ll keep doing my usual watering!

You got this :facepunch:

This is why I always start with soil that is completely saturated to the point of runoff before planting the sprout. It dries on top but stays moist in the center and lower. That encourages good, deep root growth. By the time it really needs watering, the plant easily handles another drench.

Is there anything I could do now that would help get the soil more moisture below? Probably the first mistake I’ve made so far is not adding enough moisture before planting.

Water from the bottom. Set it in a shallow pan of water and keep adding water until it stops absorbing it.
Oh, and just this once. I’m not a fan of bottom feeding. LOL

Overwatering and underwatering dont describe a single event. Both are only a problem if it is done repeatedly.

I had bad experience with bottom feeding a seedling in a solo cup. It activated alot of nutes the water was RO so it took the soils ph and I ended up flushing the soil of a 2 week old plant. 3 whole cups of water roflmao.
Maybe I should have just lead with, be sure to use ph stable water.

Most soils are ready outta the bag. Some living soils you have to water and let sit for a week or something like that. Do you have a soil moisture probe takes a lil guess out. When my seedlings are the size of yours I give them 250ml every cple days, I use lift a pot method after veg starts. Just the way @HMGRWN described it.

I just checked the soil with the moisture meter. Moisture isn’t too bad. Noticed some spots are dryer than others but not horrible. @Docnraq

I bottom water the 3-gallon bag before transplanting clones or seedlings.
Top water lightly with “cup dome perrimiter”
