I have been wondering about how to space the pots in my tent to maximize the space. I have five 5 gallon fabric pots I can use in the space. My last grow I only had 4 going but I’d like to have the fifth so I can maximize my yield.
What’s a good rule of thumb to use to space them out? Maybe a square foot per plant? My concern is that if I space them out farther than I have some of the buds will not get adequate light. Any advice would be appreciated!
You want sufficient room between the plants such that light and airflow isn’t restricted.
Buds don’t use light. They are only 5% as efficient at photosynthesis as leaves are.
What is your lighting situation? With adequate lighting, roughly 40-50 true watts per square foot, you shouldn’t have to worry about the sides.
I have a green beams 480 watt light. I believe it’s like 2x1.5 or something like that. I forget the dimensions of it but I know it’s 480 watts. Very good light from my experience.
That is true I used the wrong wording. I’m just trying to avoid one side of the plant getting plenty of light while the other is not getting as much. I feel like a square foot per plant spacing will be ok but I like to ask others
Indoor plants are commonly 2’x2’ to 3’x3’, which would be 4 to 9 square feet. A lot of variables go into plant sizing, but the 2 to 3 foot range in width is pretty common.
The other thing is I grow autoflowers just because I’m limited on space and I like the quick turn around. How does that factor in?
Autos do tend to be smaller.
There’s not much difference in timing btw autos and photos, as the grower controls when photos flower. Most autos will flower at btw 4 and 7 weeks. Photos are also capable of flowering at btw 4 and 7 weeks. It’s just a matter of when the grower chooses to flip them to flower. The flowering timing of autos and photos are the same once they start flowering (generally 8 to 10 weeks to harvest from the start of flowering.) If you want a photo to be equally quick, then simply flip them to flower at 5 or 6 weeks.
Yields are usually better with photos, as some autos turn out to be runts.
Another question I have is I’ve been researching different grow methods ( SOG, ScrOG) and I wanted to give some different things a try. If I wanted to try the screen of green method and I’m wondering how many plants should be started with that way of training in mind.
How many plants should be put into this space so that it’s not overgrown either? @Docnraq any advice?
Or is the ScrOG method mainly for regular photo plants and not really for autoflowers? Would like to know that before I try to do it and save myself the headache of getting it wrong lol
Got some new seeds to, got the GSC extreme autos this time to see how they are.
You can scrog either. I would think it would be easier to fill all your squares with a photo.
Ive not done a scrog myself but wouldnt snub at doing one. Wanna make sure you can access your plant from more then one side cuz they get stuck inside the net and cant be pulled out of the tent.
1-2 in a 2x2 (1 is my suggestion), 2-3 in a 3x3 etc, etc. More depends on auto vs photo. A photo can be grown to fill whatever space you want. Autos do not have the same luxury built in.
scrogging is definitely best used with photo’s in my opinion. also adding in LST and topping or fimming techniques aswell would only add to the yields while going the scrogging route.
being able to grow them as big as u want and shape them however u want to and making the choice on how much bud u wanna ultimately yield in the end is the biggest benefit to any photo plant
autos can be kind of rough if it decides it wants to suddenly flower and u only got 2 or 3 nodes ready. could come back to bite u hard and potentially even lose yields. but it is possible nonetheless, anything is possible.
