Grow tent advice

Hi, I’m new to growing and I see 100’s of ways to grow. I’ve been researching for the past couple of hours but I think the best way for me to learn is with some advice. I plan on getting a grow tent with 5 autoflower seeds or more (I have a little money to spend so I’m not worry about that) but I can’t find anything online that goes into detail about tents. How would you go about this? Like what kind of lights are recommended or any advice you’ve learned while you were first growing autoflower seeds. Any advice would be helpful as I will continue to research.

Welcome to the forum.

Allow 6 to 7 square feet of mature cannabis canopy per plant. That will help you size your tent for the number of plants you want to grow. Lighting should be ~50 watts per square foot of cannabis canopy.

The best lights are built with Samsung LM301 series diodes. HLG (Horticulture Lighting Group) is a very popular light brand.

If you are thinking about autos because they might be easier to grow - they are not easier to grow. Autos can be twitchy and hard to train, as you have no control over when they flower. They can also be poor producers for newer growers.

I should’ve added the strains just in case anybody has any tips or tricks with them. The 5 strains are
•Girl Scout cookies
•gelato
•Bruce banner
•granddaddy purple
•GG4
Any tips or tricks anybody might’ve learned on any of those would be helpful. Like I said I’m new and I can’t really find much information on these strains when growing in a tent(s).

Oh ok, thank you so much. I was always told autos were easier to grow that’s why I was going for them. So feminine seeds are the easier?

Welcome to the community , when You purchase a tent I recommend buy the tallest tent your space will accommodate.

Would putting all 5 in one tent hurt the process? I seen somewhere where a guy said it would and that I need to get a different tent for each one but I’m thinking he’s trolling.

Easier isn’t the way to decsribe it. In fact other than not having to worry about switching lighting (to go into flower) there isn’t any difference. Because autos are on their own schedule, there is less time for them to bounce back.

Like above, I recommend as tall a tent as possible. You might not need them for the autos but when you get into the swing of things, you’ll want the height

5 autos in a 4 x 4 space not a problem. personally I would go with 4 plants.

Ok, that’s probably what I will do. Thank you!

4-5 autos would fit best in a4x4 or 5x5 tent imo.

Auto plants you do have less control over, but auto vs photo there are specific pros/cons

What I have found through all my research during my first soil grow and my now hydro rdwc grow. There is no one right way to do this.
You will need to learn and research which way you want to grow.

I grew my gorilla glue auto seeds from ilgm first, I’m now in the process and about to harvest my gsc autos.

HLG light is what I’m using

Hello @Snowball0987
There is lots to learn about growing indoors. Since you will be charged with providing all the resources an outdoor farmer needs to provide but more importantly your commitment to provided the environment they will grow in.
Besides a tent, light, water, nutrients, and media for your plants to grow in you’ll also need to provide the environment.
Temperature, humidity, constant source of fresh air are just the basics.
Tent; you’ll need headroom for your lights as they will take up a portion of the overhead space in your tent. Get one that fits your space but make sure to get one that is as tall as you can afford.
Lights; you can check the light footprint as specified by the manufacturer so your light covers your tent area properly. Most tents are in the four foot by four foot 4x4 or 8x8 pattern. I have two tents. One that is 4x4 and my newest is a 4x8x1. Both are seven foot tall. If you have space it’s nice to have a separate tent to vegetate a second crop whilst your first crop flowers. I use the 4x4 for vegetating clones. The main tent is the 4x8x1. It has a main grow are of 4x8 and a 1x8 that I use for seedlings and rooting my clones. Your main grow area needs ample light to both vegetate and flower your plants. Your lucky that current technology provides that with modern LED lights that can cover the ‘Full’ spectrum. Best horticulture light uses Samsung LM301 diodes. Now if you read the specification of your light you’ll see that they have three or more types of diodes in your light fixture.

I use two fixtures in my 4x8 area that each covers a 5x5 area.

Lots of manufactures to choose from.
I prefer the ‘bar’ fixture model as they spread the light and heat more effectively.
I use the HPF4000 from HYPHOTONFLUX because it covers all of the above plus allows me to move the drivers outside of the grow area. Driver is basically the transformer that powers the Diodes.
On sale at Amazon for less than a dollar per watt.

Seedling and clones need t5 fluorescent grow light and small space to get going. They also needs humidity and temperature control to get their roots and leaf structure going properly.

@Snowball0987 welcome to the community. I hope you can already tell there’s a lot of great people and we all want to help. My 2 cents I’m a newbie and doing the same you are. I have 5 autos going in my 4x4, 61/2 feet tall. If this is your first grow maybe start with 2-3 but that’s up to you. Tent is going to be cheap, but to light that space your are spending big $, Also I would recommend 3 gallons pots over 5 gallon saves on space cause you will need it. I’m just starting this grow I live where winter is still cold so have a space heater going in there right now and I’m already almost out of room. And my girls are still little. Please feel to ask any questions we all are where to help. This is what 5 look like in a 4x4 not enough room to put in my tower oscillating fan yet, have my clip on fans in back, and fans strapped to ceiling blowing down. Well sorry thought I had a pic my bad

We have a 4x4x8 foot tent vivosun kit light was a vs1000 led. Last christmas mrs.spud got me a shzlux400watt light 157 dollars ,3-6-9 lights and it gets the job done. I have 6 plants.Processing: 20220214_101758.jpg…

I’m gonna disagree that autos are harder to grow. I’m a certified “brown thumb” who can kill ANY plant and my autos are growing BEAUTIFULLY. We’re growing BB, GSC, and GG (all from ILGM) feminized autoflowers. Maybe I can’t control when they flower, but they are budding up nicely and it appears they will produce fairly well, if the flowering pattern is any indication.

I have three plants in a 2x4x72" Spider Farmer tent. I’m thinking that the next grow will be just two. It’s starting to get a little crowded in there. Again, first grow and still learning, but I always say that if I can grow it, anyone can!

Thanks everyone for the advice! Lol I’ve learned more here then the hours of internet searching. Nothing was popping up on the internet for me at all so I appreciate it so much!
