Newbie Grow Area Question

Hello.

I’m in the beginning stages of planning my indoor grow area. I have a 7’ x 16’ room that I’ve commandeered for this endeavor. My state allows 12 plants in flowering total but an unlimited amount of non-flowering plants.

I’m very new to growing, but my hope is to eventually have one area designated for flowering and another for vegging and a pretty decent rotation going.

If you were starting from scratch what would you do? Would you have tents in the room or just use the whole room? I was thinking originally to set up a 5x5 tent for flower and a 4x4 for vegging, but once I got the tape measure out I realized that would be very tight. I could just turn the whole room into grow space but I don’t know how to calculate light size or exhaust. A tent setup just seems easier to control the variables.

Appreciate any insight that can be shared.

Tents allow veg and flowering rooms. No issues with a continuos grow. 3 4x4 gives 3ft in front. 2 feet between tents. Thats a lot of grow space. Each tent tuned to what you need at the time. Just my thoughts. Cleaner area. Controllable environments. I had a 4x8,4x4 and 2 3x3 up for a bit.

4x8 is what I have and 4-6 plants is about right in that size. I did 8 and it was autos and it looked like a forest

Thanks for the replies.

The two tents make sense, it’s definitely the way I’m leaning towards. I’m just concerned about not having enough grow space. My plan was to grow in a big fabric pot (or several) and scrog it. With a 4x4 I’m looking at a 3x3 fabric pot and maybe 4 plants in flower?

With you wanting a perpetual grow, I would go 4x8 for flowering plants. For veg/clones/seedlings I’d do something like a 4×4. Only issue, and it’s not really an issue is running out of veg space while waiting on plants flower. Especially if your running a mixed bag of sativa’s and indicas. If I were you I’d start slow and then understand your timings for transferring plants into flower but keeping enough space in the veg tent.

Or you could have a tent for veg and just use a corner of the room as your flowering area so your not restricted.

As far as lighting goes, I hope you have the budget because if you want to do it right, your looking at a couple thousand give or take to PROPERLY light a space that size.

With ventilation your gonna need to tell us what your options or ideas are and we could help from there. As well as your climate control.

Thanks. I do plan to start slow I’m just trying to think ahead so when I purchase things it’s with the end setup in mind. I hate buying things and then having to rebuy something because it didn’t work out with the overall “plan”. With 4/20 coming up I’m thinking there are going to be sales and I’d like to take advantage of those.

I’ve been eyeing the AC Infinity stuff. I recently bought their small 16” led lights and the attention to detail and their customer support have been stellar. I was thinking whichever way I go I’d buy their inline fan/filter combo with their controller. I also bought a couple 800 watt lights from medic grow just because they were really good deals and I read decent reviews on them.

4x8 and a 4x4 gives 4 feet between tents and 3 ft in front. Good numbers. That amount of space is a LOT. Not sure you realize just how much. 4x4 starter. 4x8 finish. Auto mixed in 4x8 with photo. A harvest of at least 1 girl a month.

You’re 100% accurate, I have no idea how much space that is. I read somewhere 1 plant per square foot but 16 plants sounds insane. Is that more like 4 plants comfortably?

The 4x8 can fit 10 easy. Nice 5-10 gallon pots. 4x4 8 veg. Take to 4x8 for flip. If slow on photo just stick a couple auto in flower tent from seed. Once you actually stand in each you will see.here are 8 in a 5x5 organic with room to spare.

That’s makes a lot of sense and I like the idea of mixing in some autos.
