New to cure and would like some advice

Hello once guys, and gals!

I come bearing another question that leaves me slightly anxious.

So, I just finished drying, and when the largest stems made a snap sound but did not “break”, I decided to trim, and cure.
However, now that I have the trimmed bud inside the jars with some hygrometers, I get a bit confused on the next step.
I’ve read to burp the container 2-4x daily for the first day or so and then taper down from there until I can get the RH to a consistent 62% or so, however, the RH right as I jar it is about 92 right now…
Did I mess up? Is that too high of a starting RH inside the jar? It seems like that’s a bit high.
Any advice would be kindly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
PS: For those who saw my previous post and were possibly curious on the dry weight, it came out to right around 220g give or take a bit of the ones I chose not to weight and tossed aside. Not bad for a first harvest!!

Take them back out and if you have a paper bag place them in there until tomorrow night then check again. 92 will mold.

You have the steps right. should keep at 60 to 70F…I like 68f. 92 % is pretty high. If you trust the hygrometers I would take the buds out of the jars for a few hours and then start again.

The paper bag comment above came in while I was typing…agree that is a good route to take.

Unfortunately I don’t have any paper bags so I can’t use this option. :frowning:

I spread the buds out evenly on a sheet and put them back in the grow tent (its not in use currently so its just an airtight sealed tent) and I guess I’ll just leave them in there with the hygrometers on top of them for a few hours and try again. Heres to hoping they turn out ok!

Good luck. Give us an update. Where you are at is better than being too dry.

A couple future considerations: A moisture meter (cheap used for lumber and construction) can help take some guess work out. Using the “wood” setting, they can go to cure at about 11 - 13% moisture content. Another is to consider Grove curing bags instead of jars. They are relatively inexpensive, and you will not have to burp them like you do with jars. They are forgiving if you bag the buds “a little wet”

My two cents

+1 for the moisture meter. Saved me from early cure a couple times.

Hey thanks again for the info!
I will be buying a moisture meter very shortly!

As for the buds, I let them sit out in my tent for about 24 hours or so but theyre still a bit high in moisture i think?
They definitely feel much different than before, but the hygrometers are still reading very high if i put them inside the jars.
What RH do you think would be a good spot for them to he hovering at inside the jars when starting a cure?

You want to be about 62%. If it gets above 65%…its time to burp. Eventually you want to stabilize at 62%. Temps between 60 and 70F…I like 68f

Cardboard box. Either work. The paper sweats the flowers. Draws moisture.

Your can do a quick and dirty check of your hygrometer. Just Google something like “hygrometer salt test”.

I found this a while ago
