A local grow shop is offering a trimming service. They will come to your operation and do either wet or dry trimming with their centurion pro trimmer machine. I am considering using this service but am concerned about the quality of the finished product. From the videos I’ve watched, it looks like a pretty violent process and I am wondering if it damages or knocks off the tricombs. I am looking for feedback from anyone that has actual experience with one of these trimming machines.
I have totally stopped trimming for looks. Most of my flowers have extremely trichome coated sugar leaves. I take off fans. Cure. As they cure and get handled the sugar leaves break off making a nice shake for pipe/edibles. Very potent. After a month or so the buds look trimmed…lol.
I don’t have any experience with that style trimmer, way too expensive for me. It seems like there would have to be some trichome loss from any process that tumbles the buds around like that.
I have a 19" bowl trimmer, but I only use it for my popcorn buds and larf. I trim all my prime buds by hand. It’s a long and exhausting process, but in my opinion it’s worth the effort.
Particularly if it is done at a temperature where the trichomes are brittle.
The upside is that you might get some good hash out of what trichomes do get broken loose.
As much trics i get from banging the trim around in my trim bin makes me distrust those machines as they MUST knock trics off. I wont use those silicon basting brushes either for the same reason.
I personally would use a trimming machine. The loss of resin during the process while using a machine drives me away. You just don’t get the correct shape of the flower as you do with hand trimming.
With our home grow I end up bucking everything. Removing all the larger sugar leaves. Letting it dry and cure like that. I do the final trim when I’m ready to smoke it. I even leave that alittle shaggy
Do you mean “would not” use a trimming machine?
Hahaha whoops. Yes I would not use one. Sorry about that type.
Machine trimming…
Does your harvest dry out too much because of how much trim time is involved?
Does it interfere with life?
Do you have hand pain or medical conditions?
Trimmers do turn out a quality product. Everyone is always going on about losing this or that. Well the fluffier the buds the more you lose. You put fire into the machine, you get fire out. If it shreds the buds in the process they probably weren’t dense enough, and they will end up in the bottom with the trim. This is the shake they sell at the dispos and what they put in pre rolls. Can be sifted, or rolled up.
I can process a lb per hour, hour and a half with my machine. That’s a full day of hand trimming for us otherwise. Sometimes more depending on the structure. Having kids in the house and all your time is committed to trimming that day is a pretty big turn off. Specially if you are trying to be discreet.
Whether or not to consider a trimmer is solely based on you, your schedule, and time management. I used to be all about hand trimming but it’s wildly inconvenient for me.
100% agree!!
I personally wet trim by hand.
Snip individual limbs off hang for a few to 5 days and trim the buds down even Farther. I keep the trim.
My Notorious thc was a tough one to trim single to 3 leaf.
4 lbs wet trimmed.
I hang whole, buck the buds and process. Would like to try wet trimming eventually.
This trimming was of 1.5lbs dry and took 3 hours. Results of trimmer pictured.
1.3oz of Kief collected after sifting the trim
Got to hand it to you, thats some fine looking buds!
Every once and a while the genetic lottery hits. Lol.
When I hand trim I end up trimming like you do. Not every plant is a machine candidate.
That’s a delicious looking nuggets.
I collect my Kief but I don’t get nearly as much.
More stays on the bud. I’m guessing…
Thanks. Kief collection is dependent on the strain, the little bit lost during the tumble would get lost in the bag either way.
Would you mind sharing the name and approximate price of that trimmer, and if you think it is worth the price?
It’s worth it for me, I can’t stand trimming larger quantities…
The model I purchased is no longer produced but there are similar models on the market. Bowl trimmers are a much better deal.
This one is similar to mine it’s just smaller. I believe the one I use is 20-22”
