That’s cool, I gotta get a couple of these
What medium are you running Grow Bro? I chased the PH when I used coco but with coco loco I set it at 6.3 and let it drift to 6.8 through the week ![]()
Never used jack but i donuse the mega crop 1 part with their sea kelp, bud explosion, sweat candy, and cal mag.. i absolutely love it
So far I have been using Coco Pearl having 30% perlite. I add perlite to get 50/50. No PH problems with MegaCrop 1 but daily adjusting when adding Hygrozyme for cleaning roots. Maybe another similar product might be more stable?
Hasn’t been a big deal for me as I don’t do root treatment every feed.
Not needed Grow Bro, the roots are in the coco and when they break through the fabric pots they’ll air prune. This is a good thing as many more tiny feeder roots grow from the root that air prunes. The roots Suspended in the bottom of the auto trays of nutrient solution doesn’t damage them ![]()
I’m considering switching to the fabric pots @OGIncognito but for now I have the hard 3.9 gallon pots. Last grow I struggled with 3 plants of same strain having issues. I didnt get to the first one until it was not drinking. Attempting a flush the water couldn’t pass through the roots. I dismantled the plant, cut off a lot of roots and put in soil but My efforts fell short and I killed it. The other two of the same strain responded to flushing and I nursed them to maturity assuming I had poor root care.
I also use CO2 and accelerating the grow probably isn’t helping things yet I have many plants that grow to the finish line without major issues. Having a little more background do you think a switch to fabric pots will be a big help my issue?
Please tag me in if you journal it.
I use those pots as well Grow Bro and never had an issue, I do layer an inch of hydroton in the bottom of the pots ![]()
What set up for this
I have the plastic AutoPot bottom pieces for some and use large Perlite for others so I dont feel that’s my issue.
Re: CO2 Setup I picked up a package from one of hydro retailers. I think it was $1200 but don’t buy a tank, rent that instead is the short answer and save $500. So the regulator is available at any welding supply shop. If you are considering I am happy to relay the specs. The magic part is the Auto-Pilot Brand Controller box having the sensor to place at plant height, light sensing shutting off when lights off, alarms and auto shutoff above set limit. It keeps a crude log history and things I dont use. It runs reliably with no flicks whatsoever. I am aware of tragic events have happened in homes with these yet I feel safe. The solenoid that powers ON allowing CO2 to emit is FAIL-SAFE meaning if power is ever interrupted the solenoid automatically closes. Alarms are backup. It is heavier than O2 and settles. My bedroom and grow room are on seperate ends of the house. IF I ever fail to check in, well… I had a great run!
Kidding aside my setup isnt totally airtight and it’s running $220-240 in CO2 refills. Lung room 8X10 with 9x5x9 tent running 6 plants max, all autos so far. Mini-split in Room as well as Res cooler, Dehumidifier, tank. Humidifier in tent. I let parameters drift for an week and I know I can fix it! In 3 grows I seem to kill a plant each grow and a couple of the survivors brings me home runs that more than pay for the gas. I’m hooked. You should try it. That was too long AND again apologies @Deadhead for hijacking’s your thread!
For clarity’s sake it is $220-240 spent per grow cycle, not per fill!
Nothing better, IMO, whether growing in soil, a mix, coco, etc., and feeding method - top or bottom. I favor 2- and 3-gallon bags for my indoor container grows.
Curious about why the need for the “1” (additional magnesium and sulfur) in the Jack’s 3-2-1 recipe. Part A already has 6.3% and 8.5%, respectively, according to its guaranteed analysis. In comparison, Megacrop 1 Part claims 1.4% and 2%. Both products are essentially equal in performance and cost, IME.
A JR Peters rep claims “The Epsom salts are needed throughout the 321 programs, because although the Part A does include magnesium sulfate, it is not enough to keep the 2:1 ratio up to par. The added Epsom salts help balance the mix of nutrients with the Part A and Part B.”
That’s a gobbledygook non-answer, IMO.
Anyone else care to comment?
FWIW, 3-2-1 is all I use from seed to smoke, and I have no complaints. But maybe I’ll FAFO and skip the Epsom next time.
Ive never added anything to 321.
If you search the forums you will find growers who experimented with the Jacks formula. I believe some did try using a 42 ratio instead of 321.
Did that in flower for one grow. Some burned more than others so I went back to 321. I think @Borderryan22 did 4/2 for a bit.
I ran jacks at 4/2 for a couple years. Had practically zero issues.
He’s not saying he’s adding anything. Just wants to skip the 1 and go jacks 32. I wouldn’t. @Deadhead it’s your grow but coming back from magnesium deficiency can be a battle. It’s not a gobbledygook answer. It is the answer as to why that’s a part of the formula.
