Is there a better place/way? I bought white widow and gg4… did 3 and 3, everything popped… end of grow go to start a new set and 1 gg4 failed to pop, and 4 ww so far just did nothing. I kept them in their little plastic bags they came in, in the door of the fridge. Maybe 3 mths in there… Is there a better way to store them?
I leave mine in my sock and underwear drawer in the dresser in a box it’s cool dark place and not and high rh at all. Make sure they don’t get hot cold to cause sweat in PKG to start germination. Make sure they r in a place where they cannot dry out real bad. So if the room rh is super dry u don’t want that but u don’t want too much moisture in the room either. Cool dark dry place I’ve had seeds in a drawer over 10 years and that’s what got me started growing was old seeds from some Mexican brick weed lol.
I hope not that’s where I store mine ![]()
I keep the seeds in original ILGM packaging and throw them in the veggie crisper in the refrigerator. Cool and dry they should keep for years ++
The fridge is a perfect spot, it’s dark, cool, and dry.
I avoid the crisper because they are more humid to keep veggies and fruit fresher.
I also vote refrigerator is a great place to store
seeds.
I also keep mine in the door of the fridge. That’s what ilgm recommended i thought. Left them in the plastic bags they came in and also put that in a clear togo sauce cup with a lid.
I have always kept mine in the fridge with no problems in fact I just germinated some from 3 years ago and they all sprouted.
I wonder what my problem is then.
Are your seeds germinating?
The fridge is where I store my seeds.
Yeah the fridge is good. I also use the freezer for long term seed storage.
The world seed bank (Svalbard Global Seed Vault) keeps their seeds frozen so why wouldn’t I?
Deep inside a mountain on a remote island in the Svalbard archipelago, halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole, lies the Global Seed Vault.
It was the recognition of the vulnerability of the world’s genebanks that sparked the idea of establishing a global seed vault to serve as a backup storage facility. The purpose of the Vault is to store duplicates (backups) of seed samples from the world’s crop collections.
Permafrost and thick rock ensure that the seed samples will remain frozen even without power. The Vault is the ultimate insurance policy for the world’s food supply, offering options for future generations to overcome the challenges of climate change and population growth. It will secure millions of seeds representing every important crop variety available in the world today. It is the final back up.
That’s me too.
about half that I tried so far on this 2nd grow start… which is why I wonder if I damaged them putting them in the fridge door.
What’s your method on germination? Ive done the paper towel, strait into soil with a dome and coco pellets. I haven’t done the water cup with peroxide. I prefer the coco pellets. I keep em in a germination box then transplant after about a week when i see roots pushing out.
I store my seeds in the fridge. Some strains are 5+ years old and still pop 100%. Other strains from seeds that age have popped as few as 60% but those strains never popped better than 85% from the first day I received them. I much prefer freezing seeds but haven’t yet bothered to separate small quantities in tiny mylar bags to vacuum seal them.
My fridge is set at 1C and certain areas can barely freeze. My seeds are stored double-bagged and double-insulated in bubble wrap inside a sealed glass jar. The jar is placed in a central area which never freezes and has good temperature consistency.
If seeds are stored in an area that causes them to oscillate between frozen and thawed, they very quickly die. If seeds are properly dried and vacuum sealed then freezing is the best long-term storage method. BUT once their frozen, keep them frozen until you’re ready to plant them. Freeze once… thaw once. They can survive more than one freeze/thaw cycle but failures increase every time. The door is always the very least consistent regarding temperature.
Yes, those seeds may be the food supply for the entire ‘world’ in the long term… but only for ‘special people’ in the short term. Of course, this is just my jaded negativity talking.
Sorry for going off topic. ![]()
Yep, thawing and refreezing is not good specially if it happens multiple times, it’s one reason why I have a whole house generator and at least 2 working freezers, not loosing my very large stock of seeds.
Do you have two freezers full of seeds?? If so then I’m assuming most are for food crops.
Dark and cold is good. Fridge is great Store with a silicone pack if you can
