Seed Shelf Life?

If I buy 20 seeds and don’t need but 4, how long will other 16 last? Years? Best way to store? I’m thinking of vacuum sealing and freezing.

Thanks
Tom

Place in a waterproof dark container and stick in fridge there are people here who had seeds for years

I’ve had some in a drawer for over a year. Original bag, in another bag, in bubble envelope, in a waterproof plastic container. Dropped 2 a month ago and they’re growing.

They freeze even longer. They freeze when naturally grown as well. I have three tiny plants coming up where I had a large blue dream last year.

So it IS OK to freeze them?

Stick them in a envelope in the Frigerator and they will keep for a long time (years). Basically a dark cool place. Good luck :v:

I believe some companies promote freezing for storage. And that big project in Russia (i think…) with all the seeds of known humanity flash freezes if im not mistaken. But for all intensive purposes…

A dark place, no humidity or air flow, and they should last upwards of 4 years (how long ive been growing and my seeds still pop)

I do, as my fridge went from being a refrigerator to a seed storage vault. I put them in small labled containers film can type and seal that inside a ziplock bag then put that inside a plastic container like a large coffee can and place that inside the freezer.

Seed vault is not in Russia thank goodness

Somewhere cold… lmao I was higher then Rick James that day. Just remembered the tv show mentioning it was somewhere cold cold.

Its in the Svalbard archipelago. Halfway between Norway and the North Pole.

The freezer would be if you put them away for like 10+years. You only want to thaw them once. Freezes thaw refreeze is the problem. Like if you banking them like a seed bank.

If you want to access them regularly fridge is cool for up to 10yrs. I find at room temp (coolish room too) that after 3 years there is a noticeable drop off in germ rates and germ time. Like 1-2 weeks instead of 2-5 days.
