This plant has gotten to what i would consider ready a couple weeks early. So please before i take this one out i would like some outside opinions. I also question should i remove more of the fan leaves that are left before i chop it down.
Can you get any tighter shots of those trichomes?
She’s pretty
Yeah, Its beautiful. Definitely in the window of ready. A closer clearer shot would help, but I think i see enough amber scattered about to say its ok. But the harvest window will be open a while.
I have done every harvest type of process and no matter what its just a time consuming process. Last ones I just finished up about a week ago, I cut the best fat colas and removed the fans, trimmed the sugars and hung up. Then I took the remaining plant and cut it at the base and hung it upside down and let it dry with whatever leaves were left. Once dry the fans were easily removed and the sugars trimmed. About the same amount of work. The one thing different is that the fans will sometimes want to hang on by a string like fiber when dry. They are easier to cleanly remove the day you cut them. Sometimes that fiber hangs up and you have to get the scissors to cut them off.
This shot is a little better. I can definitely see amber.
On the drying part. I think i prefer to leave the plant whole. So i will trim this when i cut it and let hang for a few days. Its supposed to be good temps here next week.
That looks like it’s ready for my taste. I also hang whole when able ![]()
What a beauty Brother and I would say you’re in the window. I hung whole plants at my last spot and enjoyed the slow dry, I’m using a Wedryer now and have to dry individual buds but leave as many leaves as possible to slow the drying down ![]()
Fantastic colors. If the humidity will be low while drying I think it is a good idea to keep more leaves to help slow the process down. I will often pull some after it has dried for a couple of days. I do this mainly so I don’t have to clean up a bunch of dry leaf litter. Either way it isn’t a big time saver.
To help in your decision process
Groove bags will be here next Wednesday. My question is after hanging to dry for a few days. Can it then be final trimmed and put into groove bags at this point?
I bag them when my stem moisture near the buds are 10-12%. I’ve sweated a few out in a brown paper bag that were around 15% before I bagged them and I do a decent trim job. I’ve got Grove bags I’ve used 3 times and they still hold 60-62% ![]()
yup put it in the bags like you would with jars and that’s that. Don’t put in wet.
Make life easy on yourself and start stripping leaves off of the colas. Much easier than after dry.
She is gonna spend about 48 hours in here, and then i can give it the
. Probably Sunday evening or first thing Monday morning.
No lights, fans on low and the exhaust still on. Temp stays around 70ish and around 30 to 40% rh
As @Myfriendis410 stated, start your defol of main colas now so it wont be such a pain later.
Id leave the lights on like normal and just chop in the dark period.
the darkness period is a myth.
I always wondered how if any it really makes a difference. Might just chop it in the morning in that case.
I used to do it, after a few runs I just stopped. Somehow it was inconvenient. I didn’t see any difference. Recently Bugbee said it’s actually not good for the plant. ![]()
Tried stabbing the stalk, cold temps, icing, and the 48 hour period. None of it really makes a difference.
I have seen a difference in trichome production with a 10/14 light schedule during flower with appropriate dli, but i think it does sacrifice a bit of the yield. Some plants under this light schedule hermied. But the shorter the lights on period the more intense the light should be… more stress, yada yada.

I remove all fan leaves for the last few days before chop. Just let the plant focus on the buds. It is much easier to remove them when there wet. I don’t like all the biomass hanging with my flour that has no trichomes on it. I feel like removing all the fan leaves help keep your flower from getting the hay smell.
I felt like i plucked this one to death along the way. But i agree getting them off before i chop it would be nice if i can find time between work.
Question, I am interested in kief mining, so whole plant should yield more brown kief? correct?
That’s a good question Brother Dave! I’ve never really quantified it that way but would assume you would be able to catch more in the trim bin when you trim the branches off and shake it out than single buds in the Wedryer ?? ![]()
