I’ve luckily made it to the end of my first ever grow while using DWC 5 gallon buckets with no reservoir(never again, I did not think they could drink so much)
The fan leaves got far too out of hand once flower hit and I stopped trimming them due to some things with life going on. (pics don’t seem to do it justice since i’m back against a wall trying to get photos of them. but they are about 3-4ish feet tall.)
I plan to chop and hang the two plants this weekend to start drying them.
I was thinking I will chop off all fan leaves with stems and no trichomes tonight, give the plants a night or two to heal the fresh wounds. then chop the stalks and hang the whole plants.
is there any reason I should not do this?
thank you for any information you awesome people can give this first time grower =)
also, I’ve been flushing them for 2 days on just pH’d tap water with Hydroguard if that makes any difference.

I always leave everything except for the huge fans that could mostly cover up a bud and hold too much moisture on that bud site. I think they dry out slower and thats my preferred method is taking my time
so do you think it’s best I only take those ones that have 2-3 inch stems, maybe? I planned on leaving anything with trichomes.
also, i’m assuming that since i’m cutting them down in 1-2 days removing everything wouldn’t give them enough time to have any effect on the buds either way. maybe just heal up the open wounds so they would dry better.

Just as another option I generally wet trim very closely and leave no big or even small leaves. Leaves are what makes it harsh and it is much harder to tell what is true bud and what is leaf it is all left together.
Anyway, mine tried extremely closely dries in about 5 days but my harvest is still very smokeable after curing.
Good luck with whatever you decide and welcome to the club!!!

If it was me I would still trim those big leaves keep them for bubblegum hash down the road for all the other trimmings that I’m going to have left over.
I like washing my weed no matter how clean my room and ventilation system is. So not having those leaves on there would have to come off anyways for me.
I hang upside down at a low 60° with two 20-in fans circulating air in the room window open to keep humidity at a normal.
Once that dries for about 24 48 hours I trim a little bit more stems off and use a wedryer to my liking then to my auto burping buckets.
I’m a firm believer of large boveda humidity packs.
I try to break up the labor during harvest. Removing all non productive leaves during the last week of the grow helps to spread out the work. I use a bowl trimmer at harvest and save that trimming for oil.
Really, there’s no wrong way to do it. It’s your plant after all.

awesome, thanks for the information everyone!
glad to know I won’t be making a huge mistake at the end by trimming all these big leaves off!
