About to start my first grow I recently pre-ordered a hlg blackbird but today they emailed me saying there’s a 4-5 week lead time and offered the 700 rspec fr instead. Should I get it? Is it equally good? I’m largely concerned it’s not as good for germination and vegetation.
HLG covers full spectrum, so they’re both good for veg and bloom. Just depends on space, I believe the 700 covers a little more.
I’m growing in a 4x4 and their site didn’t have a height for veg on the 700 but did on the blackbird so I guess if they’re both good I’ll just take the 700 with far red thank you so much for the help
I have a 350r and 600r and um yea they kick butt.
I’d definitely take the 700 rspec over the Blackbird. The Blackbird isn’t bad, but it’s one of HLG’s least efficient lights.
I have the 700fr and it is doing great. Right now in flower in 4x4, 4 girls, about 18 to 20" from canapy and ppfd right on.

Good growing to you.
Did you use it to veg?
Also If you don’t mind at what height did you set it as during veg
Hi there. Yes. I used for veg. At first i had it to low, so the numbers were not good. I spoke with one of the guys at hlg and raised the light to 22 above canapy. All good now. It’s a big light and gets great coverage. I have it set at about the 80 click in flower.
I keep my 600r 27” off my canopy. I may have to rethink that?
If it works, don’t mess with it. I think we will always have to fiddle around with our lights to get them where we want.
I have this app I’m going to mess around this weekend (finally) it’s supposed to help get that dialed in
For led settings did you buy the full spectrum one or the red one
I got the full spectrum
Is the Scorpion Rspec FR a full spectrum light (the red light with the wings)
This is one of them that i use. Another is tent buddy which gives more details. Also free.
I dont know about the scorpion fr, but the 700 rspec fr has the reflectors and is full spectrum.
