Hey there guys i need help with light options. Is there anyone that knows or has any hlg lights? So i have been looking on ebay and they have 600 rspec light for sale that have been refurbished for 250 and out of the 10 600 rspecs 1 of them only has 2 light pieces that are out and i have a buddy that fixes/replaces them. And on facebook marketplace theres a guy that has a 700 fr for 300 nothing wrong with it just wants to get some money back. So my question is which would you prefer? Im looking to use it for veg and flowering in a 4x4 im just curious i like the deal on both especially the 700fr but i see that it says its specifically for flowering and wanted to see if it would not help in veg. If not ill go with the 600 rspec because thats plenty for me and im totally happy with it but if the 700 fr doesnt affect veg ill take that deal for just 50 bucks more
Both are good lights, HLG is top notch. The Rspec might be a better choice of spectrum for full grows without changing lights. The red spectrum of th fr700 might cause young plants to stretch and be leggy. @dbrn32 is way more learned on HLG lights than I am, he can definitely tell you the best choice.
Most would not find the FR spectrum ideal for a light they want to use for full cycle growing. Just like growdoc posted, you will get a little more node spacing in veg from it.
You mentioned having a buddy that works on lights? Hlg currently has 288 rspec boards and slate 2 heatsinks available on the web page and a 25% discount. You could probably get parts direct from them and assemble a 600r rspec for around $300 and have all parts under warranty through hlg.
Okay thankyou and really? Im going to have to look into that he builds custom lights so im sure he wouldnt have issues doing that ill get in contact with him and see how he feels about it! I appreciate the responses from you guys
Just called him and he said he has extra drivers laying around specifically for that build and told me he has no problem doing that. Thanks for the tip!
Glad it will work out for you! It was a very common build back in hlg’s infancy. The hlg 550 retailed for $1049 and you could copy the build with a better heatsink for roughly $600. This of course was when 288 boards were $79 and heatsinks were $50.
