Hello
Before I call tech support, I thought I’d run this past the group. Been using the light for a few months without a problem.
But now, my HIG 350R light is turning off unexpectedly. When I plug in the Jack that leads to my controller, the light dims a little, then cycles off after about 10 seconds. If I unplug and plug back in, it comes on but will cycle off again.
I checked the programming on controller and it’s not supposed to cycle off for several more hours.
If I unplug the Jack (the cable to the controller), the light comes on bright. I have changed the power outlet and it makes no difference. The light will dim and then shut off once the Jack cable is plugged in (after 10 seconds or so).
I just changed the port from position 1 to position 3. Then did the on, off, schedule programming for port 3. Seems to work now?
Sounds like my controller has a bad port. Or maybe the port needs the power cycled off then on to reset it?
I have a 69pro and use HLG lights but ive never tried to hook up my pro to an HLG. Im still using a digital timer. Have you gotten the most recent controller update?
What cable do you use? unplugging dial pot requires controller cable AC-I ADL8 Type B Resistor Dongle. Not, type A
The connector you use leaving the controller, WHAT is it?
You photo shows wrong cable adapter, could be the problem.
Dongle Cable required is dependent upon manufacture of the DRIVER for the light.
My HLG350R works perfectly with the type B dongle, as advertised on HLG site.
Dongles were out of stock for a while.
My 260R Kit light requires OFF/ON controller to extinguish, completely, as it uses the resistor dial pot.
What driver does your light have? My350 Resistor dial works fine, manually adjusting.
Using the 69P controller required the type B dongle for RESISTOR circuitry control.
PWM may not be for your driver.
Secondly, remove UIS cable and turn 180, re-plug (if it fits).
Update us, soon.
What driver does your light use?
That could be the issue, different driver than expected.
Take pictures and contact HLG Customer Support.
AC-Infinity sells the dongle, not HLG (go figure).
Hate to be a total goof but I have no clue how to tell what drivers I have. The pic you sent for Type A and B doodles talks about two different dimmers.
I don’t know if mine is a resistor dimmer or a PwN or 0-10V dimmer?
Absolutely, CONTACT HLG, they are GREAT (above said it).
Meanwhile, LOOK at your DRIVER and take a picture.
Above, HLG pictured some driver LABELS.
Very useful and needed information for assisting HLG Customer service when they assist you.
Your trouble ticket will be answered quickly, just not on weekends, maybe.
If your light works with the dial dimmed at half dial, thats 200 watt, meter about.
If it works on the dial with no issues, then it most likely need resistor circuitry without a capacitor (causing Pulse Modulating?) . THUS, Type B is the answer.
You are lucky your light has the factory installed RJ11/12 box. Life is easier when they get the wires in the right place, for us. My 260 light has a dimmer pot (40K) also available for purchase pot and kit included 100K resistor and (no caps). I still am building my own.
