The harvest is over…it was a good year, growing four different strains with excellent potency. The crop was dried then cured in Grove bags, and now it time for long(er) term storage. A good friend went to his grow store in another town and the proprietor said to only use Grove bags for the cure, switching to air-tight storage jars later. My local grow shop said Groves are perfect for long-term use.
So, with this conflicting info, what is the best strategy?
I used jars for my very first harvest @ that time everyone and his Mama was buying them…couldn’t find them often! Also the prices went up ! It got to be a pain burping 30+ jars all the time and they are big and bulky and take up lots of room .Heard about Groves and was very skeptical…But tried a few last season ( for curing and storage) and was impressed…This season I went with just Groves and went straight from drying to curing… I am only about a month in so I have a ways to go probably wont open them until 2023. I am a believer in waiting for a longer cure…Like they say a fine wine…etc etc. Just make sure when you order from Grove Bags you order correctly…I screwed up and got too small of bags and now I’m stuck with them as they do not exchange or refund. The jury’s still out on long term storage but Im sure either way will work as long as you follow guidelines.
I guess I depends on your situation. I like the 32oz wide mouth mason used with a small hygrometer. Long term storage protects them delicate flowers.
My neighbor uses a 5 gallon bucket with sealable bag with the Grove packets.
As you can see, you will still face conflicting messages. There are plenty of opinions on the subject. I don’t know the answer but, I can say, I’ve got some SD that’s been in grove bags for almost 4 years now and still just as fresh as the day is young.
You will make that decision in time. Try them both. Good luck!
Last month at CannaCan, I think it was @pr that talked to the folks from Grove about this subject. IIRC, the answer was that you should only use the bags for long term storage, if you heat seal them.
They are here in my area and they told me the same thing. Once cured, they suggest glass jars to dispense from. They suggested getting glass jars with glass lids…not metal. Said the dissimilar materials causes issues. Something about trichome retention and long term quality
Thanks for all the replies. Several of my Grove bags are starting to separate, the zip-loc strip from the bag proper. These are going into square, half-gallon sized glass jars.
I have heard of this on a couple of occasions rare but if you call grove bags customer service i bet they take care of you. They are good people according to my experience.
