So I’m going from the fox farms trio and adding cal/mag and molasses in fox farm soil to that pic above. My understanding is that I only need epsom salt now to complete my nutes to where this is “better” than the trio I’ve been using? Also, those are 2 1/2 pound bags, will that be enough for the whole cycle?
I’m seeing a lot of mixed ways of doing it and I thought I understood how to feed until I seen so many variations from people.
So basically I’m going to grow in 4 5 gallon cloth pots, I read that this coco is also amended and don’t need to soak it to get it nuted? I’m also seeing mixed responses with the amount of water I’ll be using on them. How much difference will I see with water usage?
I grow in soil but have used jacks on my latest grow, it’s been great although a little boring, meaning no issues! I’ve been using the 4/2 mix ratio with no epsom salts, recharge on water only days. The 2 lb bags will probably last me for years but I only grow 2-4 plants at a time, and again I’m in soil, might go through it faster in coco. I should really make the switch to coco but I do a lot of 1-2 day trips so daily watering would be hard for me. @OGIncognito uses the 4/2 in coco I think. Good luck
Appreciate the tag Doc, @Tros epsom salts is not needed…Jacks part A supplies enough mag and sulfur to omit the Epsom. Those 2.5 lb bags will last you several grows. Use 4 grams of part A and 2 grams of part B per gallon and feed to liberal run off daily or at least every other day with vessels larger than 1 gallon. This brand of coco is void of nutrients so feed jacks from day 1
Yes, and a few more grows beyond that. It lasts a good long time. If you have a scale you can weigh out the doses. I just measure it with kitchen measuring spoons. 1/2 teaspoon each of part A and part B per gallon. Part A has Epsom salt in it already so you can skip it if you want. Or if you want to add it just use a 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. My last two grows I just dropped it and the grows were fine. I take a lot of flak for not weighing the doses. But if a 1/2 teaspoon dose weighs the right amount, then why would a person go to all the trouble to weigh the dose every time when its gonna be the same by just measuring it. To build trust just take a 1/2 teaspoon, measure out the product with it, then weigh it.
Besides, this stuff, (Jacks), is very forgiving. You do not have to be “Exact” in measuring the doses.
Does a great job growing too…
While coco with Jacks gives great results there some downsides as well. As You mentioned there is the need to fed daily. I am running four AutoPots in a 5x5 tent with Air Domes, (Air injection on roots), and the coco stays so damp that it gives off a lot of humidity. I am needing to run a dehumidifier during this winter for the first time. On colder or dry days I can run the 15 pint dehumidifier, and on warmer or rainy days I need to run the 40 pint unit. I run them in the lung room to maintain 40 to 50%. This is needed to keep the tent at least below 55%. Refrigerated dehumidifiers are not cheap to run. I am only running the AirDomes 30 minutes on and off during the day cycle only. Yesterday the plants used three gallons of 321, and the big dehumidifier removed 4.5 gallons of water from the air. Kinda makes me feel like I am running in circles, putting the water in, and then pulling it back out with a dehumidifier.
But with those complaints stated, I am happy with the conditions. Here is a screenshot from the controller.
Just a thought, but I went to ebb and flow hydroponic due to trips, being away for a few days. My system is set up so I can control everything from wherever I am. I love it and my grow loves it even more never seen plants grow so fast and healthy.
Although there is sulphur and magnesium in part a. At 4 grams its still less then traditional 321. Green gene has a great video explaining all of this with total breakdown of all micro and macro nutrients. It lowers your overall tds but at a cost.
My 4/2 runs are going well. My input TDS only drops an about 20 PPMs by the eliminating the Epsom. My input PPMs with my water source is around 800ish with the addition of silica and the plants are thriving
My RO water has a ppm on average of 10. After adding A and B its usually around 550ppm. Every time I try to go higher than that I get issues, so I just go with it. You can see the painted nails effect on the two buds I posted the pic of. That’s right where I want to be. Perhaps my TDS pen is off. But I do not see the need to replace it since the results I get are fine. Maybe the reading is off a bit but its close enough for my needs.
Ya ive never ran the 4,2 but was under impression its about a 100 ppm in the green gene video. As i said it will work but imo 321 is better based on nutrient breakdown. Every1 has there way for sure. Check out that video if you get a chance…i would post the link but honestly im not sure how and sorta computer dumb lol…
Thanks @John7 I’ve been looking at different grow methods and setups, auto pots, ebb n flow, etc. I’ll take the leap someday. I could probably talk my wife into feeding while I’m away but she’s a bit jealous of my “other ladies” as it is
So if you believe it there is no difference would it not be more economical to do traditional 321? After all,i can get a 4 lb bag at walmart for 4$ sorry if i seem naive, i just curious to why most go 4,2, must be bc of one less part to mix?
Check this video. It breaks down elemental ppm and at each macro and micro nutrients. Good piece of info. Right at the 5 minute mark it will show a chart of all the different jacks mix’s plus some other popular nute lines. So its 70 less ppm on the chart from traditional to 4/2. Green gene himself says traditinal is still best over 4/2 or the boost with mpk, but it breaks it all down. Im a numbers guy. I do like that the pk nutes are a sliver more. But that is it, less calcium, sulphur and magnesium.
Part A is about 30% Epsom salt in its formula. In the 4_2 system you drop the extra plain Epsom salt completely and up the amount of part A just a little to make up for the small drop in magnesium. I run the original 321 without Epsom and have no problems. As I have said multiple times…This Jacks stuff is very forgiving. Especially in Coco.
On a side note, for outdoor gardens or farms, the printed formula on the bags do not use extra magnesium at all. It only shows up in the Cannabis feed schedule.
I hear ya brother. I know magnesium and sulphur are in part a. Ypu must not have looked at that chart in video i presume. It has it but is less across the board.
