GG autoflower past harvest

Hello everyone,
A friend gave me a GG autoflower that had a bit of bud rot so he decided to dispose of it. I told him that I’d give it a good home but here’s my question:
Since this plant should have been harvested around a month ago, will it still have any of it’s THC/potency? There’s very little rot on the plant that I can detect and I was thinking of using the good buds for oil. Is it worth a try?
Thanks for your input, as always

If it is way past peak, the THC will convert to CBN, I believe, and you might get some good sleep meds.

CBN

Cannabinol is essentially THC that has degraded either through heat, time, or some combination of the two. Ever smoke old flowers that weren’t stored properly and found yourself immediately tired? That is the effect of CBN; rather than getting high and paranoid you just get sleepy and lethargic. The only way to smoke CBN is through old flowers which is why tinctures and edibles are the preferred methods of consumption for this cannabinoid. The wait for THCa to convert to CBN without combustion or vaporization can take years; rather than wait for for so long we will use our oven to decarb our harvest.

Thanks for that detailed answer! Just to follow up, I spoke with the friend who gifted me the plant and he said that it was powdery mildew, not bud rot. Will this make any difference? Is there a bud wash or something that I should do? I have it drying now and under magnification, you can see whitish residue on the buds. I don’t know if this is just old, collapsed trichomes or something else. There are also some milky trichs there as well.

In any case, if I wind up with CBN, that’s fine with me as I want the oil for sleep and pain!

Thanks again, Newt!

Not sure about the mildew. Sorry.

Maybe @Hellraiser @kellydans @beardless @low @MattyBear can help, or tag someone else in that can.

Post a picture if possible let’s see what we’re talking about.

I’ll give it a try but am not sure that you’ll be able to see what I’m talking about. I only have a jeweler’s loupe but I’ll try.
Somehow I thought that powdery mildew was a thing for the foliage, not the buds. Am I wrong?

Give it a bud wash with peroxide

What @Hellraiser said. I just washed 8 plants and you’ll be surprised what gets left behind in the buckets
