Exhaust Fan Help

I am a first time grower in the process of putting together a new grow tent. The tent is 24"x24"x72". It has a small Mars Hydro TS1000 led light and an oscillating AC Infinity fan to keep air moving aroung. To get my feet wet I will be growing only one plant in this tent.

I have a question about using an exhaust fan. I currently do not have an exhaust fan installed. I do have a AC Infinity humidifier installed to keep the humidity up.

The setup has been running for about a week so I could get a feel for temp and humidity levels. Temp while the light is on runs around 76 degrees and the humidity as set on the humidifier to 60%

My question is whether I need an exhaust fan if I do not need to vent excess heat. In fact when winter sets in, I live in the upper Midwest, I might have an issue with keeping the temps above 70 degrees. I might actually need to add a heating pad in the winter to keep the temp up!

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum.

Good airflow is still important for CO2 replenishment and mitigation of mold risk. Fresh air in from the bottom and stale air out the top.

That’s what I was thinking. What about the configuration of the fan. Would you recommend getting the carbon filter as well? I’ve read that even if odors are not a concern that the filter will keep dust out of the exhaust fan itself, thus prolonging it’s life.

Thank you for the advice.

I would think that the pressure differential on both sides of the filter will equally, if not worse, impact the life of a fan motor, as the motor is forced to work harder to pull air through. It’s probably even in the end. I’m not sure that it would matter unless you are using the fan in a sand storm. The only reason to use a carbon filter is to mitigate smell.

No filter will save me some money too!

Thanks!

I think a four inch inline exhaust fan from AC Infinity would work very well for you. It comes with a built in speed control, and this will be a necessity. A four inch fan pulls way too much air through my 2x3 without the addition of a speed control. If smell is no concern then just open the tent’s vents on the bottom, and let the exhaust fan pull from the top at a reduced speed.

I just ordered the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE PRO T4 from Amazon.

Thanks for the advice!

You should go to AC Infinity’s website, and checkout their full line of grow products. One can tell their products were designed by growers. Their products have a very good reputation on this forum.
