Dummies Grow journal 2024z

To start this off I’d like to say hello and long time no see! I’m sorry I haven’t been here in a while. I’d like to thank the community for all the help theyve given me and to everybody who helped me on here for my first grows back in 2020. I took a long hiatus from growing as I didn’t really have a good space for it and between work and life it just wasn’t optimal. Over the summer I was able to attempt my first ever outdoor grow with some OG KUSH (here’s a picture of that)

The OG kush turned out OK but was severely degraded in the cure as everything started to mold during a 4 day rainstorm and when I cut it down a lot of it was already infected. Shame. Still yielded about 1 lb dry.

(One of the larger colas unaffected by mold.)

Anyway, it really got the fire in me to start my grow again. And unfortunately the time I was able to finally get a space set up and get my grow going, it was well into winter and I was working on a budget to get supplies. My grow environment and build consists of this.

A gorilla lite 4x4

A sonofarm sf4000

I have a 4 inch in-line fan with a carbon filter from vivosun, however the model I’m using is an older one and they no longer sell it. Any 4-6 inch in-line fan should do, and more modern ones will certainly be better. I’ll be upgrading soon.

I also use a Govee tower heater since it’s cold.

And a Govee humidifier since it’s dry in the winter.

I have both the humidifier and the heater hooked up to a govee branded Bluetooth hydrothygrometer and set the environment automatically through an app on my iPhone.

Ideally I’m trying to maintain a temperature of around 77 degrees with an RH between 50-60% the hydrothygrometer from Govee also measured VPD and currently the vpd in the room rest between 1.29 and 1.49 which is ideal for me since I have flowering autos in the tent.

However, it wasn’t always this way. At the start of the grow I was in such a hurry to get my beans in the ground, I put them in the tent before I could get the environment dialed in and I think I suffered a bit for it.

(The earliest set up circa Jan 14, 2024)

I have a Honeywell heater as well as vivosun humidifier in there which are both great options but for the size of the tent and the ability to automate the environment I opted to go with the Govee.

Here are some photos of the grow leading up to now

(Shortly after they all sprouted)

(This is about 7 days later, January 19 I’ve added in second set of big devil xl autos from sweet seeds but they haven’t popped yet.)

(Day one of life for the new autos! Jan 22)

(Another picture a few days later as the seedlings start to develop)

(Photos of the big devil xl seedlings up close that same day)

Now here is when things get tricky. I now had to leave to go to Miami for 4 days to work. I I believe I overwatered all of my plants before leaving which is detrimental to auto flowers. But what can you do, don’t Pull it until it’s dead I say!

(A picture of the tent about 4 days ago February 12)

It’s clear to me that some things have been stunted. Which brings us to right now.

we are currently at about week 4-5 into the first pop. I’ve been working a lot aSo I had an issue about a week ago when my tent lost power for almost 11 hours. It stunted the flowering autos and stressed my plants a bit but what’re you gonna do. Right now this is where we are at.

These are blueberry (jan12)and golden pineapple. (Jan 11)
The blueberry is doing great and everybody is thriving, the golden pineapple is responding great to training, but can anybody tell me what this deficiency is? I’m tempted to believe it’s iron.

Picture of the deficiency

right now this is where it is! I hope some of you might follow along and be able to share some wisdom with me, like for example am I correct in thinking this is an iron deficiency in the golden pineapple? And I hope that maybe some new growers can follow along with me and maybe learn from
My mistakes or find something valuable out of this. I’m not a professional grower, I don’t have all of the top of the line gear just yet, and despite having started to grow back in 2020 I’ve only ever really completed 2 indoor grows. So I’m brand new to this, and I hope this is a fun and enjoyable learning experience for everyone. I know it is for me!

Here’s my growing medium mixture and nutrient mixture.

I start all my seedlings in coco pucks.

30% FF0F

60% HP PRO MIX

10% perlite and lava rock

I use the recommended amount of Gaia green 4-4-4 dry amendments when mixing the soil as well as down to earth fish bone meal and alfalfa meal and two full bags of worm castings.

When transplanting the seedlings, I sprinkle super myko at the root zone and water in with dechlorinated PHd water.

Since I’m trying to grow organic these are all the nutrients I will need until I’m ready to go into flower. Going into flower I will be too dressing the soil with Red Sea bird guano (full dose) and watering it in with RAW potassium at half the recommended feeding. When watering in for the first time with fresh amendments, around week 4-5, I will also be using real growers recharge tea to boost the microbes in the soil. All of my amendments can purchased on Amazon.

THANK YOU!!

Will be watching

It may be but if you used the same mix for all the plants and no others are showing that it might not be.
They look like normal new growth up top and will darken to the normal green color in a day or two. That plant seems to be producing new growth faster than the others so that’s why it’s showing a lighter green…maybe
Let us know if the new growth doesn’t darken up in a day or two.

Congrats on getting your grow on.
Organic grower here love me some down to earth products.
If you tend to travel for days at a time you might want to look into blumat auto watering or the SIPs pots where there is a reservoir of water at bottom the pots sit on and may work when your away at work.

Here is a thread that might be of interest to you

Enjoy the day

DC Pusled inline fan (AC Infinity) is so much quieter than than Visiosun.
I have both. Guess which one is for back-up when Hell freezes (Yes Hell, Norway, does freeze this time of year)
T6 inch fan better than T4 or A6.
T8 for serious spaces.
AC Infinity and HLG got my money and I like my grow equipment.

Utilize discount codes or call customer service and ask for one.
Wait for sale time, works too.

Keep in touch!

When I started growing and got all my stuff, this wasn’t an option on the market yet. I’d definitely recommend an ax infinity tent kit.

Tremendous write up!

Good luck!

Hey thanks man! Seems like you’re absolutely right about the golden pineapple. She just keeps busting out new growth and she seems fine. Pretty interesting colors, it’s like the leaves are striped yellow and green at the top, but growth is rapid, so, can’t be too bad. And I’ll definitely be investing into the grow space this year. A res is at the top of the list. Right now I’m growing in a Frankenstein setup with things I already had just to try and make it work.

So today is February 20th and I just came in from feeding the girls. It’s important to note that the water used in all of these teas was pre PHd and taken from a reservoir that’s oxygenated and dechlorinated. Also this time, In preparation for this feeding I filled the reservoir with water that I treated with potassium phosphate (0-0-50) . I gave the photos a feeding of a compost tea made of just earth worm castings and molasses as well as the potassium phosphate water. All this on top of the soil is dry amended with Gaia green 4-4-4 at its recommended feeding.

The autos all got a different much more potent blend. For this I made a compost tea consisting of 5 table spoons molasses, 6 tablespoons earth worms castings, 3 tablespoons red seabird guano(0-12-0) and added some real growers recharge to the tea (because why not), i than brewed it for around 30 hours (using the potassium treated water) and fed the girls in. This is what we are looking like this week.

(February 17th, just over a month above ground)

Big devil autos almost at 1 month of life and starting to stretch.

(Feb 17)

The older, more stunted autos.

Now caught up to todays feeding. I started them all off with a little lst and some minor defoliation on the lower branches.

I’m hoping to see them explode in growth after this feeding. And I’m also hoping that everyone is doing well! stay Tuned for more updates as they come. Who knows, maybe I’ll have an explosion of growth, or maybe I killed my plants! We’ll see!

They all look great keep doin what your doin.

As a side note don’t bother adjusting the brewed teas PH.
I went through this dance a few years back and what I found was after brewing my tea it would read around 8PH and when I added some citric acid to lower the PH and then checked it a hour or two later it always rose back up to its equilibrium so I stopped checking it and all has been fine.
Not sure if you do that just thought I’d mention it.

I know that the microbes in the tea should be self adjusting as far as PH is concerned. I just think it’s important to mention that the water used is PHd before hand. I will soon be investing in a blue labs ph pen once I can , until then I use reagents. But yes, what I mean is that I PH that I used water that’s been phd prior to the brewing. Thank you for clarifying that! Great point!.

This is my current set up.l for my water res and my witches brews.

Also thank you! I the girls are doing a lot better.

Thank you very much. Looking forward to seeing how everything turns out.

Just FYI…
I just got this new soil pen about 10 days ago and for $45 it was a no brainer for me as 2 of my three old analog soil meters were becoming inaccurate and they cost around $55 each but have served me well over the years and this new meter allowed me to check them for accuracy and one is still in range as I can’t calibrate them.
This one is used for direct soil insert or can also be see for liquid PH tests as well.
I looked into blue lab for a soil pen unfortunately for $160 if the probe breaks or fails you toss the whole meter per an email back from blue labs so I looked elsewhere and I’m happy with it.
Calibration is just like other wet meters. It’s not to the hundredth but show 6.7 not 6.75 and I’m fine with that growing organic it’s close enough.
This one too you would throw away but over $100 less.
There was another brand similar to this one for a couple bucks more which did have ability to replace the probe but didn’t see that one until after this one arrived from Amazon.

Hope this helps
Enjoy the day

Saved me a lot of money. I’m
Looking at blue labs just because in the past I’ve used cheaper alternatives and it’s had a very poor result. Thank you for sharing.

4 hours later and everybody is loving life.

Also, I made a change to the grow rooms arrangement. I moved the flowering pots away from the dehumidifier and put the vegging flowers on that side. So just moved the two pots on the left side to the right side. But I’m thrilled with how the girls seem to be reacting to their recent feeding.

Let me guess you got high and then it came to you haha
Looking good

Best way for them to talk to you.
Happens all the time in my grow.

Hey man, sometimes ya gotta change up your brain function to see things clearly.

Alright so here we are. Feb 22. The girls have been eating nothing but teas since I started the feeding. Today I also decided to add some red bird guano to the top soil of the plants in flower and blood meal to the plants in veg. I watered the flowering plan ts in with a compost tea consisting of Red Sea bird guano, molasses, worm castings, and silica. The plants in veg got watered in with a real growers recharge tea and silica. I’m hoping to keep the microbial life in my soil very happy. And I think I’m doing ok because the girls look happy and the tent smells like pureeeee dooky.
