Drying ideas? Need help!

Hey all! So I’m going to be drying soon and usually I have a room that’s 60/60. This time where I live my ac isn’t on because it’s been mild temps.. Both tents the doors are open and I’m having trouble keeping them under 80f. Which in turn introduces fungus gnats… In a few weeks I’ll be drying so I’m trying to decide whether to get the terraform 7 to pump cooler temps in the smaller tent and move the others into the bigger tent to finish. I’ve also read the lotus fridge method too. Or cannitrol unit. I don’t want to spend the 1600 for the cannitrol right now even tho eventually I’ll end up doing that. Any input is always greatly appreciated.

I don’t understand why leaving the doors open at 80 deg F introduces fungus gnats. That sounds like a job for mosquito BTS, or other remedies.

If you can maintain an RH around 60% in one of the tents, you might dry there. Perhaps add a closed-loop humidifier, and include at least one RH sensor/monitor, circulation fans, and a low-speed exhaust fan to pull air in at the bottom and blow it out the top. It may be warmer than ideal, which means it’ll dry faster.

So the “basement” is on the bottom floor of the house and the screen doors are being used. My kids come and go to our pool and patio and bugs come in. It’s always been an issue as I live in the woods on the Chesapeake bay. No way I’m getting close to 60degrees right now. Maybe at night. I have an older home and the breakers won’t allow a ac or dehum. With all the other electronics plugged in. I could care less about the gnats. Annoying yes. But by the time they get bad which they have before I’ll be ready for harvest anyway. I’ve dried in 70 ish f and 70% rh and wasn’t ideal for me. Again my screen doors are being used because it’s not hot enough for ac to come on so if it rains I’ll have a humidity spike which sucks. I’ve got many fans and clip fans helping with circulation but definitely not ideal. That’s why I mentioned the terraform 7 or refrigerator for drying. Just not sure which to pull the trigger on.

I’ve read some reviews and not good ones on the Terraform…not much of an AC for cooling :love_you_gesture:

Ah ok. Well forget that then. Not for 600 bucks. Thanks!

Look into the above link for building a drydoc. I recently built mine and it’s working great for drying and curing. The cannatrol is much too expensive. Good luck

I don’t understand. If you have enough power to run a Terraform, you should have more than enough for a humidifier or dehumidifier. What am I missing?

Hey Greenjewels, if you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost to build your drydock?

In my original post I mentioned moving the plants to the smaller tent to dry and moving those to the larger tent to finish. Smaller tent would be 0 lights and equipment which would allow me to use the terraform.. I’ve done this before and trying to combat heat from a dehumidifier with an ac in my opinion is wasteful and expensive.. my bge is already over 1k monthly..

Sounds to me like you may need to update the electric in your house, not trying to be rude but at $1000 a month, either you have a problem with power wires or you live in Pennsylvania. Only said PA as a joke being I usta live their when I started growing and my bill was $1000 a month.

But if you have FB you might find a wine fridge on their for around $40+ then the parts I would say around $100 roughly you could build a drydoc dry/cure.

@Harold It cost me about 300.00 269 for the wine cooler and 40 for the dehumidifier. I already had an inkbird controller. I know some people have found a used thermoelectric wine cooler for much cheaper. I had no success when looking locally. The compressor type of wine cooler won’t work.

Thanks for the info. I saw the comments about the compressor type not working and I have a spare Inkbird controller.

Yea unfortunately my house is old and not efficient. 4500sq Ft as well. And in Maryland bge rates have been a huge issue. Not long ago average was about 550 monthly. By January of 26 it’s something like a 90% energy increase.

Look att the Drydoc thread from Growdoc to build a Cannatrol alternative at a fraction of the cost. That is what I’m doing.

I usually dry my plants by hanging them upside down outside, under the roof overhang. The gentle breeze helps.

In their location that’s not possible, conditions outside wont allow that.

We have previously dried in the garage but there is no temperature control and it can range from 75-95 deg F. Some terpenes can begin to evaporate at temperatures as low as room temperature, around 70°F (21°C). That is why we are doing a DryDoc.
