Hey yall welcome to my Simple grow, been around awhile and I do things a little different. I use miracle grow potting mix by choice, but I have been doing so and have learned to overcome problems and take advantage this airy medium. I do 3 grows a year, having 17 weeks per grow max, so there is no time to waste, and I have come to stop growing autos, I am a control freak and a bud snob, even if I got good yields, I was not happy with autos, and I also stopped Sativa for the same reason can not always control hight/stretch and longer flowering times. So indica dominant strains fit my bill shorter round bushes with very nice calyx to leaf ratio that makes dense buds that take less time to flower. I am giving Bergmens GG4 a 50/50 a shot if it out does the others as I started 4 and best 3 will go on. I am starting two Delicious seeds indica line strains, Critical sensi star a 90% indica and Marmalate which is a 70% indica, neither of these have I grown before, and last is my favorite from two grows ago, Ethos genetics strain Mandarin sunset. I use some organic nutes to augment my miracle grow potting mix which is basically wood chips and sphagnum and peat moss, with time released nkp nutes. Of course it’s a hot medium, my first few watering to run off has ppms as high as 4000, most 2700. But there are fixes for this problem, I water to the size of the plant so I wet only where portions of the pot as the plant needs. To start off I fill 4 3gal plastic pots seeds 1/2 inch deep and I am using one 16 ounce cup of water
to pour around each seed so that the soil 3 or 4 inches around and 4 to 5 inches below the seed is moist, so I have set the stage for the seedings because roots will have nice moist soil to spread out in. No worries about over Watering because that area of wet soil is surrounded by dry soil that saps away excess moisture. I water seedlings and put a fan on them from day one, I understand that seedlings only consume a few mls of water at this point but but you can’t put 10 ml of water at the base of the seedling and expect it to get down where the roots are! And I pour water at the base of the plant because I want moisture to go straight down below the plant, roots need moist soil and roots air prune or stop growing when they get to dry soil because of the massive oxygen loads in dry dirt.
By wetting only the area I anticipate the roots need, I also decrease the amount of time released nutes I activate, therefore less nute burn as the plant gets taller and wider I increase the rings and depth of the watering. Judging by hight and width of each plant I pour enough water to wet the root zone every few days, in a sense I do a sort of hydro, like flood and drain or wet dry, miracle grow potting mix is very light and it allows soil to breathe. I don’t even like calling soil! It’s closer to coco, but it’s peat moss retains moisture better than coco so watering every several days to every other day is different than every day with coco. This is where I am today and for those of you who are new I grow in my closet, a 2x6x6 for 3 plants 2x2 for each. And for lighting I use HLG 100s for veg in the 4000k spectrum, when plants get larger each plant will have it’s own light, I also have flowering boards after the flip in two 3000k and a newer 3500k Rspec. I can not alter my closet so no ventilation to speak of, fans and open doors during the day. Been at this since 2017 and here on this forum for a few years now, last 9 grows this is 10th. I have learned a lot from this forum and enjoy documenting my progress, and having you all along. I don’t claim monster colas big lights get, but for less than 25w per sq foot I grow some decent buds. As of now I average 4.2 ounces per plant, I need 3/4 pound per grow to keep me in medicine throughout the year lol Okay yall the girls all popped up yesterday but today they are all standing tall and looking good so today is Day 1 Mandarin sunset was first up
Critical sensi star
GG4
Marmalate
To control stretch I run my lights at 12 to 15 inches at 18/6
So 5 days ago I used a 16oz cup of water to and have only dampened the top inch to keep seed moist when top dried. Today I am going to pour in about 8 ounces of water mixed with Speedyveg a organic growth accelerator, or so they say but I use it every grow, it has micro and macro nutrients with no nitrogen so can be used on seedlings without burning.
Anyway you guys hope you stuck thru all that and are interested in my methods I hope you follow along, I don’t waste time, as every stage is quick after seedling veg till 10 nodes, top and first plant to 18 inches, flip the closet and flower. We are off and running yall. I will go through my last grow and I will tag anyone who showed interest in my last grow and look forward to new people. Hope all have a great day, happy growing yall
