Day 42 of flowering. Do I let it keep going?

This is my first grow. I am using a Maui Wowie feminized seed I bought from ILGM.
My question is how can I be sure she is ready to harvest? Today is only day 42 of flowering and the grow guide on here said 63-77 days of flowering. The buds are looking pretty good to me. I just don’t want to go too long and lose quality. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

You’re almost at the finish line

You will want to monitor trichomes on flower and harvest when they are to your taste.

Watch the video @MidwestGuy shared, maybe a few times. It is hands down the most helpful guide for what you achieve when you harvest - and whether that’s potency or yield, or a blend of the two.

Someone around here grew a beautiful Maui not long ago. Don’t remember who but if I remember right, she was one of those strains that bulked up by throwing pistils in a few rounds (white → brown, then fresh white → brown and so on). It’s up to you at the end of the day. If trichomes look good, they will be good. :v:

I missed the strain. Here is a Maui I grew in the last year or 2 near harvest time. The flowers don’t look big on the plant, but I got some baseball sized flowers off of her.

They look good but they have a while to go theres still alot of white pistols and the buds still need to bulk up yet

This is actual days of flowering not from light change to 12 hours. What day count does the 42 days represent? From flip or actual flowering days. The difference between the two is the transition period. The transition period is typically 10 - 14 days depending on strain and environment. A recent poster stated a plant is 18 days after flipping and sees no real signs of flowering.
These are 14 days after light change - button day

Plant looks great. Nice bud formation. You should check out @NUG61 thread on his Maui grow Maui Waui on the scrog table. Posts 1500 - 1600 cover days near harvest. The week and days used in the thread is 21 days from light switch, I believe the plants were cut, using his day count, around day 70. Adding 21 puts it at 90+ days from flip.

@beardless … i had to go back and look myself. I flipped on jan.9, had pistols at jan.22 so 14 days…then i went 9 weeks before harvest…63 days… so 77 days from flip.
@JDub1980 … do not use that as a solid time frame. Check your trichs and let the plant sort of show it cant go anymore…you will see it.
Watch the suggested video and determine what feel you like and harvest accordingly. I would not harvest any less than 60/40 cloudy to clear on the tops…i used the 60/40 on the mid level buds to harvest by. :sunglasses::v::heart:

What @MidwestGuy said. Study those trichomes. This is my first grow and I feel like I live in a jewelers loop or endoscope.

Im cheap had a 16x loop and a decent phone camera took some experimenting but eventually i got it to work

These are great shots. I’m not liking my endoscope/microscope – I can’t focus the dang thing. I’ve tried holding the loupe to shoot pics, not happening.

If you have glasses and or contacts, please take them out before using any type of scope. The lens will do the work for you. :+1::+1::+1:

I had a portable microscope that went past 200x magnification and it was such a real pita, I tossed it in favor of the 30x and 60x magnification Jeweler loupe.

I use my loupe – to be sure. I love the microscope – but no matter what I do it won’t focus. Is there an autofocus model?

Hi there. Take a piece of bud off and lay it on napkin and set you microscope over it. That is only way i can get pics now. so shakey

I think that’s what I’m going to have to do. Cutting freaks me out – but we gotta do it. I’m still looking for an autofocus digital microscope (that I can afford).

I have seen a few people on here post about mounting the microscope on a tripod or a microphone type stand. They got creative for sure

Thank you @beardless, and @NUG61 a lot of great info. Much appreciated. I flipped the light cycle on 3/21. 4/5 I started to see flowers blooming. I am going to get a loupe, and check the trichomes out… over the past couple days my RH jumped to around 70% ordered a dehumidifier that should be here tomorrow.
