Curing RH into second week?

So this is my first ever grow and thanks to the help here my first three autos yielded damn near 20 oz, with the final auto still drying in the tent. I did 4 different strains ( I know better now to not do that lol ).
What brings me here today is a question about curing. My first 3 I dried around 65F/58-60RH for about 9 days. When the small stems snapped I dry trimmed and place into mason jars. The first week I burped twice a day for about 15 minutes each time. Now into second week I’m burping 1x a day for about 15 minutes.

The first week they RH in the jars was around 55%. Second week I’m seeing some 50% and noticed one jar say 47%.

I was thinking this would be normal as time goes by the buds would lose some more moisture so I’m curious if I’m doing anything wrong? What should be the final RH before I stop burping these jars? I’m a little clueless if I need to be doing anything right now. I don’t want to mess up my yield. I also don’t know when I should stop burping these jars.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If jars are not over 60% you can stop burping.
I use grove bags now for cureing but when I used jars once the jars dropped below 60% and stayed, I never opened them again till ready to use it.

These grove bags are awsome though not having to worry about it at all and I can put it in them alot wetter then jars and they regulate RH on their own and work great if ya just keep them in a cool darkish place :+1:

:edit. I should add, you’re not doing anything wrong at all.
My bud often drops to 45% or so and it’s fine so you haven’t hurt anything :slightly_smiling_face:
I find the size and density have a huge part in how long it takes to stabilize from the buds moisture escaping as you said…

I dont think you need to burp anymore if you are at 50%. When in doubt squeeze a bud. If its just slightly stickier than your preference its ready to be sealed up. Just my opinion

Thank you sir. I’m going to get those grove bags I keep hearing so much about. I’m tired of burping these damn things, too many jars lol - Guess that’s a great problem to have really.

Yeah, these buds feel exactly like that. Thanks for your help. This community is so much better than Reddit.

So much better than reddit…love it and that is da tru tru.

You mentioned grove bags, once you have them cured for about a month in the groves, if you have quite a bit o flower, you can transfer to long term storage in the mason jars. I have cured for as long as 6 months in the groves and they will lose internal RH over time. These 2 buds were cured in groves for 6 months and when I opened the bag to do a final trim prior to smoking, they smelled so dang good. But I noticed the RH in the bags dropped from 62% to 56% in that 6 month period.

Same thing happened to me with my Grove Bags…RH dropped from 62%-63% to 55% over 6-8 months…

I have read that putting the Groove bags in the freezer once they get to the desired RH helps maintain that RH until ready to smoke. I had found that my RH in my Groove bags were down to 45%. I put a Boveda 62% pack in the groove bag and they are stable now. Just a FYI.

Your jars are ready to stop burping when you can’t smell hay on opening the jar and the nugs fluff between your fingers with a little effort. If it’s still too damp for your liking you can still remove more moisture when your ready to smoke it. Hard to put moisture back in though. Just another opinion here. I don’t don’t use grove bags for a few reasons. 1) their own website says they good for a year. I still have a lot of my harvest from 2022 still. 2) I don’t like that I have to give them my info just to access the study that validates their claims. Not saying claim is false, I just think information should be accessible. 3) There are 2 dispensaries out here that use them and their flower is always fresh cut wet (I have 2 friends that have reported mold) or explode into powder dry depending on the package date. Again I’m not saying grove bags are bad. They’re just not right for my situation.
