Hey guys, need some help here. . this is my 1st grow in coco coir, all of these are in weeks 5 or 6 . All of them are showing sex and 2 of them are showing a little more signs of pre-flower but I’ve never seen autos take this long to flower. These are 3 different strains, from 3 different breeders so it has to be something I did. . 2x Fastbuds blueberry, 2x Melonade Runtz, by Dutch Passion, and 2x
Strawberry Milk & Qookies Remix, by Night Owl Seeds.
Light schedule was 20/4 nutrients are Advanced Nutrients regular version, switched to the Coco coir version a week ago.
I obviously wasn’t feeding enough, because they are stunted in growth, but they gave always looked healthy with no other obvious issues. I have a friend who told me to give them 48 hours of darkness and flip them to 12/12, this will trick them into flowering he says? Idk? Hoping you guys know the best option…
i noticed similar results when growing autos in soil and in coco at same time. It seems like with the extra oxygen and nutrients you get to the roots delays the auto flowering. (this is a good thing)I’m assuming your watering to runoff atleast once per day ? what nute line you using? what strength light? I’ve topped them with good results at day 20.
I am now using Advanced Nutrients for coco coir, the first 3 weeks I used the original advanced Nutrients line that PH’d to 6 - 6.5. I PH 'ed that down to 5.8 I’ve heard there isn’t much difference in the two except the coco version has extra cal / mag.
My mistake I think was watering every other day, it just seemed like they didn’t need it… I water when I saw the top layer drying and the bottom of the pot was no longer wet to the touch. The plants have never once looked unhealthy or had PH issues. I def understand that I’m not feeding enough but I’ve totally screwed up soil grows and they stil went into flower lol. I just don’t get it?.
Once the roots form good, you don’t want to see any dry coco on top, it was HARD for me to get passed that, but if you look at my journal, you’ll see the difference once I started watering every day. PH was starting to climb as well, I had to up my EC and get it up to around 1.7-1.8 and increase feed to every evening and they exploded, EC and ph are back on track. Coco is totally different from Promix, which I love. Growth is unreal now…
I’m with the others. When they get there roots established and transplanted the coco should stay wet. It’s a hard habit to break when you’re used to soil. I still catch hell in seedling stage and I been growing in coco about 3 years and still learning. Keep on keepin on.
That was my thought when I first started indoor growing, I would start at 50% and then straight to 80% when they left the seedling stage into veg I would get these short, bushy, plants. I was told on this forum that my light strength was too much, and the plants remained short because they didn’t need to grow any taller… Is there no truth to this?
The pics are what they recommended heights and brightness in each stage, and this other is the Par chart. Migrow and a couple of others have reviewed this light, tgeir tests did match the manufacturers par test.
Thank you everyone for your input, at this point do I follow the 48 hours of darkness advice or do I simply feed more and turn the light up? Trash and start over?
