It’s been a while since I posted anything here…

I’ve been experimenting making vape carts for a friend. I found this on Extractcrafter (the makers of the Source and ETOH).

So far, this has helped me a LOT making the carts the perfect consistency without having to cut it with too much liquidizer and terps.

That’s the process I’ve been using for a couple of years now. Each strain is slightly different, but I don’t cut the oil with anything.

Thanks @AfgVet! I’ve got a ? for you… I’ve got someone who 'm making carts for and she swears that the stuff I just made was a strong sativa (she wants indica)… but it’s the exact same stuff I used to make her gummy bears (that she absolutely loves) and she swears they are totally different… I’ve told her many times already that they are the same but she won’t believe me… is there something maybe in the heating process that’s changing it?

Just a reminder… Carts are assimilated through the lungs by breathing it in while gummy bears are eaten and are assimilated by the liver… 2 very distinctive methods.

I might be wrong, but I think that’s why she feels different effects.

So the only thing I can think is to add Myrcene terps to increase the indica effects… I don’t have an endless supply of specific strains… I normally go for the hybrid strains. Do you think that would work to bring out the Indica effects of what I have?

I really can’t say… @AfgVet, @Budbrother and @Myfriendis410 are way more knowledgeable on this than I…

Kap brings up a good point on ingestion differences. Adding myrcene would change the flavor and maybe her mental perception. It could help with entourage effects, and the way it’s perceived on the body.

Talk to @Not2SureYet : he played with terps at one time.

Why does that sound so creepy?!

It’s ok if he played with his own terps…right?

I can’t imagine. All you’re doing is decarbing the oil. Same as you would for edibles, it’s just not a full decarb but a partial. I haven’t recieved any comments like that about mine

Here’s an good article of the difference between smoking and ingesting.
Two completely different compounds.

So I’ve been processing a lot of my stuff from last year into QWET and I had already made a first run with dry ice on about 8 full mason jars. Wanting to check to see if a second run would produce enough to even worry about, I threw 2 full mason jars with Everclear in the freezer to process with regular winterization (aka not dry ice). But, I accidentally left the two jars set in the freezer for almost 4 days with the weed. This produced a really dark solution with obvious chlorophyll. No amount of normal filtering can help at that point.

So I decided to do a test run on ‘scrubbing’ the mixture.

Here what I did:

I started with this

Split equally into 2 jars

Added approximately 1/4 teaspoon of Activated Charcoal (from coconut) to one jar

Gave it a good shake

Next, I took Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth, mixed it into a slurry with my Everclear 191 and poured it into the Buchner Funnel with a coffee filter and used the vacuum pump to remove the alcohol leaving a ‘filter cake’

Then I poured the charcoal mix over the filter cake and used the vacuum pump to pull it through. This took a bit but here is the outcome. I was very impressed but wondering how much I lost (terps, cannabinoids, etc)

This is the final product… again a massive difference (Note, I threw away the dark concentrate… it was obviously not anything I want to use even for edibles… very dark green)

So the ‘scrubbed’ end product was roughly 1/3rd of the volume as the ‘non-scrubbed’

What I did have trouble with was making the filter cake sans any cracks. When it formed cracks, the charcoal mixture just went right through the cracks providing zero filtration. I found my making the slurry a little more runny and less thick (optimum thickness was about 1/4 inch. I also found that if I didn’t vacuum pump ALL of the alcohol, but got it to where there was still a bit of visible alcohol, then let it drip the rest of the way out on its own (which took a while), then it formed a nice solid cake with no cracks.

The cracks you see above were just from me taking the coffee filter out of the funnel and making it crack on purpose to see the filter layers.

Was it worth it? Verdict is still out. I opted to take the remaining of the over-soaked product and just run it through the Source without filtering and just tossed the concentrate in the trash. I just wanted my alcohol back.

My rough guess would be a little over 1 gram of scrubbed concentrate for each mason jar of mixture… Not worth it to me but good to know if I eally want to save an over-soaked mix again…

I’ve got to get going on the same thing. I’ve had to remove a bunch of flower from the freezer to make room for elk.

I’ve always wondered about doing a second run. I agree that it’s not worth the effort to process one gram.

Exactly… The dry ice really strips most of the goodness away!

I’m just going to let it dry out and we’ll throw it on one of our burn pits LOL… even though there’s not much left, it still smells like weed burning. Make the neighbors wonder jajajaja.
