Hello community I recently started a grow with banana kush auto flower I have a mars hydro grow tent with a 6500 fc led light 6 inch ventilation fan system the humidity is around 58 right now temps range from 69-74 Fahrenheit it looks like the leaves are wilting and starting to yellow/brown a little I sprouted in jiffy peat cubes this is day 11 I have watered a couple times since putting them in big pot I’m new to this and any tips are greatly appreciated last but not least my soil is a mix of fox farms and happy frog
Let the soil dry out before adding any more water. The best method for seeing that a seedling has what it needs without risking root development problems that come with overwatering is to use a humidity dome and to not water the soil at all. Use a clear Solo cup or a cut pop bottle and spray inside of the dome a couple of times each day. The plant can get all of the water it needs via the leaves from the humidity in the dome. Start watering a few ml a day when the plant outgrows the dome.
If you don’t want to use a dome then begin watering again with a couple ml of water each day after the soil has dried out. Do not be afraid to underwater at this stage. Dry soil is far better for them than soaked soil is.
You can water fully in a couple of weeks when the plant is large enough and has a developed root system. All the plant has at this point is a single tap root that isn’t very effective.
Are you measuring and managing the pH and of the water you will be using? It will also be necessary to use a PPM meter after a few weeks when it get closer to feeding time when you will be managing runoff PPM.
Exactly what he said. Toss a clear solo cup over the plant and mist the inside of the cup and keep it misted.
I do need to get a meter to measure ph balance I didn’t know if I could use distilled water from grocery store I did buy some nutrient but am very new to this will these take care of ph for me?
Sorry for dumb questions I do appreciate feedback
When I go to store I will pick up some clear cups I didn’t realize they needed to stay in dome for so long I had them in a jiffy peat dome box but they were touching the top so I took them out
Get a good Ph meter dont cheep out. ( Aperia) and get a cheep tds meter. The ph meter is critical
Distilled water does not need to be pHed. Once you start adding nutrients you will have to adjust the pH of the solution before pouring it in the soil. Adding nutrients to distilled will create a low pH - usually ~5.3. Your target pH should be 6.5. A pH of 5.3 is over 10x as acidic as a pH of 6.5, so it is very important.
You should also maintain a runoff (the water that runs out of the bottom of the pot once you start watering fully) pH of 6.5.
Ok well u just taught me something I didn’t realize importance of runoff and testing it this is definitely gonna be a learning process
I’m gonna go ahead and order one as we speak another question I can control my light setting I’ve got it around 30-35 should I turn it higher or wait til they get bigger I’m doing 18/6 light schedule
Im not familiar with your light but someone will chime in.
I use an HLG 65 v2 for my seedling stage and then put my HLG260xl (lowest setting) a week or 2 after transplanting. Then as veg continues i raise setting a little at a time till full power just at flip. The 65 is at 12/15 inches, the 260 at 25/30inches.
When choosing a PH meter I strongly recommend going with Bluelabs or Apera the yellow ones from Amazon are for lack of better words crap
Ok cool what exactly is a tds meter sounds like I need to spend 50 or better on a ph meter
The tds meter is different the cheap ones are ok. I have Apera the 20 is about the cheapest PH meter that’s worth owning the 60 does both as far as bluelab goes someone else will have chime in
Here are some pics sorry it’s been so long since I posted I’m going on week four one of them is staying small not sure what’s wrong with it
My temp has been around 75 and my humidity was around 58 but has increased to 62
I think your soil ph is a little off on the smaller one, are you feeding nutrients to that one yet? I suggest water only, do a slurry test in the soil and see if you can get a good ph reading.
Then we can come up with a way of correcting it.
I just started putting some cal mag in water and I also just gave my first round of pridelands veg nutrient that one has been smaller from the start what is a slurry test
Slurry test is when you take some of the soil mix it with clean water i like RO or distilled shake it up and let it set for awhile and check the ph, it will tell you what the ph of the soil is.
Ok I will give that a try originally the soil was a mix of fox farms and happy frog
Should have plenty of food for awhile longer, check your soil ph and if it’s off her some down to earth lime and add one tablespoon, check it again after a few waterings.
Tag me with your results and I’ll help you with dosage.
